At its release dynamis was a activity that included a huge number of players(~64). Given the fact most activities in game are just 4 or 8 man affairs, something to involve a huge number of players working together would be a breath of fresh air for a lot of fcs.

I would love some more Promathia worlds. Those zones were scary and awesome at the same time!Although, without needing to sneak or invis past mobs, it probably wouldn't be as fun here. : /
i think one of the reasons is specifically because some people want to fight in the city maps. just because something is repurposed doesn't make it bad, if it's done right it can still be good.
i don't particularly care for Dynamis in this game though. i would rather the opposite happen. let us go into dungeons after we clear them.
For most of us, it was the fact that it was a safe zone turned chaotic. The story was minimal when it was first released and gave the illusion that death was brought upon the inhabitants of the cities of an alternate universe. Come to find out that wasn't exactly the case as more Dynamis zones were released, but it didn't change the impact. Plus, the music was epic, given the grim nature of where players were and what was in store for them. If story, immersion, and environment mean little to nothing for you, then I highly doubt the addition of any form of content would seem fun to you outside of the actual action involved. In other words, you're not really playing for the game being Final Fantasy. Not a problem to do that, but you just won't ever understand what people that do want (including the devs).

Not all Dynamis zones were like that. Fundamentally in the early years (when it launched) "Dynamis" represented a multi-goal, massive Raid (up to 64 Players!) to challenge for fun.
Dynamis-Xarcabard was AWESOME:
You could plan out multiple paths to make your way to fight Dynamis Lord, or spend your time limit farming ancient currency for Relic Weapon (which in that game WAS epic), or go to Side Paths and fight Other NMs for rare drops (getting the Fragments you needed, or fighting some nasty NMs for your Attestation of Might (Bravery, Fortitude, etc.) and many other goals.
It was exciting, multi-objective gameplay that wasn't just running the same thing every week.
I wish FF XIV had MORE OPTIONS for players; a variety of content to do each week that mattered.

OMG, those nightmares of Dynamis are coming back to me!
I don't think I have ever had a Dynamis run where I didn't lose 1/2 a level's worth of EXP. I went in as Red Mage for the majority of the runs. I was the Black Mage Party's Red Mage. Talk about never taking a break unless you were dead: keep things asleep all the time, cure Black Mages and take over curing duties when White Mages run out of MP, Refresh cycle, pre-enfeeble mobs if possible, tank things that were woken up until hate was drawn from you (and cure yourself to get that hate back on you because provoke lol), look out for adds, keep a haste cycle up if possible, and stay weakened or double weakened for more than 50% of the run since you keep getting personally acquainted with the ground.
Our Linkshell would go through so many Red Mages...

With how Dynamis was in FFXI, there are a few ways they could do it, for example they could do it as it is in FFXI with Diabolos' dream world by having an Amdapor related story (thus leading us to Diabolos again, or even a storyline where the Acsians send us to an alternate dimension. They can bring a similar idea to FFXIV easy, and write it into the lore.

Promyvions were my jam back in XI, I'd love those. Something like Besieged would probably make sure I did nothing else but that. They had something similar in 1.0, it wouldn't be that hard to implement something Besieged-like...
My kingdom for Besieged. Maybe some Promyvions. But yeah a huge alliance essentially wouldn't be too hard, they do it for the Frontlines PvP, they can do it for normal raids, I'd think.
Well we have the echo we see the past so why not use that where wer in a part of the past. Maybe have some out side force trying to change it and we have to stop them. They could also use the last big battle as spot in it too from 1.0

Dynamis would be nice add to the game don't think they would even think of adding something like that till PS3 is dropped don't think PS3 can handle lot of people at once. I think cap of 50 people would work
