Grand Company Enlistment!

Which Grand Company did you pledge your allegiance too?!
Why did you pledge your allegiance to that nation?
Was it the gear, their ethos, your home nation?
Or was it the babes?~

Just curious, because I'm having trouble deciding...

Welll after I found out I had to do those same tedious 6 missions first for all the other ones... I'm about to be in the Maelstrom.


And yeah, Yoshi said ignore gear. I have a friend in my linkshell that was gonna choose one because he liked the gear. You have to choose what YOU want, not based on some silly items. Those items I don't even think you can put materia in them. It should be about the reward you get from being with that specific company, not just rewards in general.

I chose Maelstrom before the patch, but then again I've always been partial to the spiraling towers, so don't ask me.

I've ignored Ul'dah now. Not interested. Raubahn's speech wasn't meaningful or passionate like Merlwyb or Kan-E-Senna.
Merlywb has to work to get her followers, and hold them, they revolt, and she contains.
Kan-E-Senna is gracious and is doing her job for the world of Eorzea. She wishes to save the world.
Ul'dah lives up to it's name by everyone latching on at the single mention of gil, and for their services they get what?~ Fame and recognition, apparently.

Ul'dah is my home nation, but it's ethos of "Glory and Wealth" don't really suit my THM Lalafell. Lominsa's "Take it to the enemy" type "we will ride the storm" is more inviting, and Gridania's "Protect the forest and become one with nature" is all nice. I'm just struggling because... correct me if I'm wrong. You can't participate in Caravan Security with friends of other nations correct?.

I chose Maelstrom, but kan-E-senna alllllmoooost had me. I liked her speech, but I hadn't seen Merlwyb's speech yet, once I saw that one, I was sold. Raubahn's was kinda... I don't know.

I'm still having a hard time deciding... I want to join the same Grand Company as my friend because of the whole Caravan thing (can only do it with people from the same grand company). And I'm trying to ignore the gear as an incentive, but... I dunno. I prefer the storyline and just general nature of the Gridania GC (elementals, nature, etc), and I'm a Conjurer, so... Seems fitting.

I just dunno. :/

Damn it! I just realized I was suckered for all those shiny items from Ul'dah. And I have to admit that Raubahn's speech wasn't that good either. Lucky for me, I haven't joined yet, so I still have a chance to hear Merlwyb and Kan-E-Senna speeches. Oh, brother! I just wanna get my darn chocobo now!!!

Btw, I have a question: once you join, is it forever? You can`t change back, right?

I've been wondering about this myself. In the game it states when joining a specific company that you can't go back on this choice and it is permanent. However, I remember seeing a few days ago some translated Japanese patch notes saying this.


- To avoid one country getting too much enlistment, making it so depending on number of enlistee the company bonus changing.

- It doesn't mean you can't switch (grand company) later on, later we are looking to adding "Free Company" where you can join optionally.

So I'm confused... Will we be able to switch Companies to another in the future? I really don't understand what the notes are saying here. Perhaps I'm just reading this wrong. If anyone can shed any light on this It would be appreciated.
