Esoteric gear doesn't feel like AF2

Maybe it's just me, but I don't feel like Esoteric gear lives up to being Artifact gear. To me, it feels more like Darklight, Weathered, Doman or Asuran gear-- just more individualized by job.

To me what makes AF gear isn't stats (obviously as the original AF was quickly replaced) and it wasn't just about the looks. It was about the story, the job and the history behind it. When you got the last piece of the original AF you feel you've achieved something (besides level 50). The job felt complete.

Sadly, Eso gear is just a grind for yet another carrot. Just like Doman gear and just like Asuran gear. There's nothing personal involved. I would have preferred to have some story built around it and I hope the new Relic weapon has an epic quest attached to it.

I don't recall how exactly the Ninja AF was obtained, but I do remember it being very lackluster. Although finishing the set upon hitting level 50 felt like a reward and added some sentimental value to the armour. I'm honestly indifferent otherwise, the appearance blows AF1 away, and that's what really matters to me, I do get your point though.

I hope the relic/mythic (or whatever they decide to call it) weapon has an epic story attached and not just something that felt rather tacked on like the original.

Yeah I was hoping they'd at least make me run around the world and look for treasure chests with armor in them like the original lv.45/50 AF set. They had a cool opportunity to make this gear epic, super legendary and interesting to acquire but instead its just Rowena and her crew dolling out fancy equipment again and upgrading it with little bits and doodads that drop from Raids. IMA STILL GET IT THOUGH.

I remember the quests for the gear wasn't terribly original, but ill take coffer hunting quests over no quests at all.

Exactly. I just feel stuff in the Artifact category should have some story behind it instead of just being another tome grind.

Tomestones in general should be handled like FFXI; BCNMs/KSNMs/ENMs/ISNMs/etc.

I can't be the only person who's bored of the tomestone grind by now... I'd much rather have a fairly simple tomestone grind, with a fairly simple trial at the end of it for a piece of gear, than just a boring tomestone grind...

YES or grind for key and do a trial (like maat fight) to test your skills for AF (prob fight from your past job class quest but stronger) ?

I prefer the Esoterics grind, and the "gather and get a piece of loot a week" options we've had, over the drop method used in Dynamis in FFXI. "Pray to RNGesus that the red mage hat drops this time and that the other two people in front of you in the waiting list don't show up the night it does."
