Likely many are under the impression since the tank heads in first that the tank knows every single detail.

I usually ask before we start if anyone needs pointers on something I've done before. If I am new, I give full warning that it's my first time ( although I watch a guide beforehand but watching is different than actually experiencing ). It doesn't hurt to type out a sentence and ask "Does anyone need advice before we start?".

But I bet you didn't get flak when your explanation was deemed inadequate after you already explained everything that you thought of and no one asked questions.

Stop playing as a tank if you feel the general consensus is for the tank to know the dungeon. So many people use this section as a wahh Q_Q me section these days.

I typically end up playing things as a healer first, then a tank so that I can explain basics (You did explain it, so my point is moot in comparison. :P), but I agree, tanks are not your personal Prima Strategy Guide. If no one asks questions when they don't understand, the blame is on said person(s). I know some people can only learn by doing (me being one of those), but I'm sure you could tell them "a snare looks like X and are located at Y." Not that hard people!

Sadly though, the tank is the first target when things go wrong, no matter whose fault it is. And that's the story of how Ifrit HM requires i110 gear.

Well that is uncalled for. He made a statement because he needed to vent.

As a tank especially in a 4 man it is my job to lead the party to victory, if they have questions about certain mechanics I know, then it is my job to explain it. I know its hard work but its what tanks have to learn to put up with, so its best to grow thick skin and move along or change to a DPS.

The general consensus in the game is that the tank IS responsible for knowing the entire dungeon. If you don't like it, move onto another job. Also a lot of facts were left out of this thread to give an accurate assessment. He never explained what the other tank was doing (was he new? never said anything?) Steps of faith requires 1 tank, so the other could of been doing snares or something.

Only time personally I've seen Steps of Faith failed was before they nerfed it, and I can say proudly that I cleared it before the nerfs.

Well that's a bad start right there. DPS on cannons is gimping your run pretty hard.

1 tank + 1 healer on cannons. A ranged DPS gets DK.

Fully agree though getting told "you're the tank so you should explain it" is kind of messed up.

It is not the tanks "job" per say but usually the tanks know the most about the fight because of mechanics they have to deal with but it is really everyone's responsibility to help people out. I always step up if someone else does not and someone wants it explained. It is just good manners to be helpful and so I try to do my best to help the group whenever I can and if I know enough.

Tanks usually know quite a bit about the fight but they also get a lot of flack if they don't babysit sometimes. The expectation of hand-holding adds to their stress on top of having pretty visible, necessary job that's high in demand.

I agree though, everyone ought to pitch in and doing so helps things go faster too. It wouldn't hurt to look into a guide either before going into a dungeon/raid, either.

I had a party earlier with a friendly DRG that helped explain stuff that I was not quite remembering completely. Really, ANYONE can explain. I've explained it as a healer, I've explained it as a DPS. Someone generally knows. And can it be 100% expected that the tank know everything their first time? Because trust me, my tank classes would still be at 16. Just because I can get a feel doesn't mean I know everything.

Edit: I should note that I would not expect that of high-end raids. You best know the fight then. I don't raid as a tank. Ever. But everyone should know what they're doing beforehand, yes?
