I think the au ra aren't all that accepted in eorzean lore outside of a few tidbits that don't do much to describe them. That beast tribe confusion actually did occur in several places. The ishgardians initially saw the au ra as another breed of dravanian. Given the right look, they can also look like voidsent such as succubi.
