Is anyone else disappointed by the lack of Long Term Goals?

One of the great things about FFXI was that you could work towards something for a year, get it, and use it for like 3 to 4 years without it becoming obsolete.
You felt like you accomplished something, and it was often something fairly unique.

For the most hardcore players, there were super-rare items that only a few people were able to acquire per server (until just before xiv 1.0).

In 1.0, relic weapons were a serious grind. Yet with the release of 2.0 they became a joke to get, and quickly become obsolete. The set of following quests were once again a ridiculous grind. And once again, they have become obsolete with the release of 3.0.

While I understand the point of making things obsolete is to keep people playing, I really wish there were 1 or 2 things that I could work toward in the long-run (like a legendary weapon that remains legendary)

I don't count housing as on many servers (including mine) there are no longer any available. And I don't count gold saucer, as the large rewards are either meaningless (e.g. cloud card), or not 3.0 compatible (Fenrir and Adamantoise unable to fly).

While things like tetra master and chocobo racing exist, they don't seem to have any actual rewards. Best you get from choco racing is a helmet for glamour (which looks the same as one I have from 1.0). And there are no real benefits to tetra master, other than getting MGP.

What I'm missing is a "super" item I can spend 2 to 3 years working towards, as opposed to a "new" item I can spend a week working towards every new major patch.

A 2-3 year grind followed by nothing to look forward to in terms of gear upgrades for another year or so does not and will not work with this game and its community in general.

People are already complaining about a 3 week minimum to get an eso weapon, what dya think would happen if it was 2-3 years?

The main focus of PvE and endgame has been and will continue to be gear-grinds that eventually change to glamor options. The community is based largely of casuals/semi-casuals that expect rewards/upgrades ASAP for doing content.

Tl;dr wouldn't work thanks to how the game has been which led to how the community is.

That's so un true it's sad. If they had stuff in game that took 3 or so years to get {and for so called hard core nothing takes that long} they not be putting out game content every 2 or 3 months because if content was lasting over a year we not need such fast patches or new content. So instead of every 2 or 3 months we get content every 6 or 7 months and id be fine with that many casuals be. But the hard core are the ones always making a fuss over caps and no content

Can we not agree that FFXI was held together by a very dedicated fan base? That it only grew after adding new platforms. We got new servers with North American launch. CoP dud treasures new server added with xbox community. While I had hoped that Heavensward would dramatically increase the player base to justify new servers. We did not see enough new players. All the reviews I read praised it but it had not been a fresh start.

The days of horizontal progression is gone. Unless you want a purely glamour item. Then i see no reason to complain. But anything that has any relevance to progression should be reset in the current model.

I wouldn't mind an item, be it a mount, weapon, set of armour, etc, that could be upgraded (adding cool visual effects and the like) that came with a long grind without RNG. One that never gets nerfed even 5 expansions in. Probably never going to happen though, and if it does it is going to be nerfed eventually.

My Grand Company Chocobo has not been nerfed even 2 years later. It is still the top speed ground mount. And more cool visual effects have been added in barding.

    Ok, I'll stop.

Only that WoW utterly destroyed itself after reaching Cataclysm due to raising the level cap so much that it could no longer sustain a reasonable pace of quest progression. Vertical progression is dead and gone with WoW. To mimic that model without tempering the upwards progression is suicide.

Unfortunately, it's catered to (please excuse me for using this word) "Casuals".

Then, you have the type of people who want everything in the game, and then suggest devs to nerf stuff to the ground.

    It's not fun, but...they can't please everyone.

I happen to be a "casual" player and I have to say I'm bored with the game and lack of content. Only two dungeons for eso then when I finally get a piece of gear I'm happy until I think of how when I do finally gear up a job the gear is already obsolete.

Ilevel does not need to raise so quickly, they can program the content to whatever ilevel they want. The real problem is the "hardcore" player who feels if the ilevel isn't rising they aren't progressing when all it really takes to progress is new content and beating it, not ilevel.

Hardcore raiders are not the people who believe that they need higher and higher ilevels to feel like they are progressing. Hardcore raiders prefer content that gets harder and harder and never gets easier. They like gear that is reflective of their challenges but saying that a hardcore raider almost prefers vertical isn't true.

I'm a hardcore raider who enjoys challenges and does NOT enjoy the constantly rising ilevels. As soon as you get something, it gets outdated. Why bother with the current challenge when the next challenge comes out in 2 months and with gear that will make the current one obsolete?

Hardcore raiders don't like that. No one really does.

    GO BACK TO THERE.
And XI was a godsend for what it was good at. This game benefited from all the successes that XI had and all its character models and how some of these spells/classes even work. Seriously, I'm always baffled about how people say that people who like XI should just leave XIV when this game basically borrows everything from XI. And I'm not just talking names since FF uses the same names for a lot of things. I'm talking XI specific stuff including its models.
