    Consent, never ending "suspicious activities"

My account, my sisters account, fathers account, friends account all on a 3+ times a week have to reset our passwords in order to log in because of "suspicious activities". its comforting to know that SE is concerned about my and my friends account safety but honestly im getting tired of making new passwords EVERY time i attempt to log in. please help me, im aware of the one time password thing but after downloading the app and losing my phone i was unable to log in or recover my account for a week while i waited for customer service to disable the onetime password... so if there's any other way id like to know.

    Thank you for your assistance!

You could always get the token instead of the phone app. Works just as well.

It seems to happen fairly consistently if your IP address changes and/or if you play in different locations or on different devices.

Of course it is particularly baffling on PS4/PS3 because you are already logged into PSN!

You would think that logging into the same service account from the same PSN ID from the same physical game console you normally play on would not be "suspicious" but go figure.

Your Internet provider probably has a dynamic IP address (not fixed/static) so every time your router tries to get a new IP address from your provider there's a chance it'll be something different. Then each time you log into FFXIV with a new IP address it'll trigger the "suspicious activity" flag.

To fix this as others have mentioned above, just add a security token to all affected accounts (either a physical one which is a small cost from SE or as a smartphone app (free for Android and iOS). Having a security token on the account not only allows you to have a free teleport location in game (that you can change whenever you want), but it also overrides the IP checking.

Or you could contact your ISP and ask for a static IP address (if they can do that though they'll likely charge for it).

I'm still boggling at how anyone can "lose" their phone.

I never let mine out of my sight...

    OP, you have three options:

    1. Stop losing stuff and get a token. They are essential for account security. So many accounts have been hacked and stolen these "annoying" security measures are in place to protect you.

    2. Get a static IP. Every time your modem cycles it will refresh the IP addresses of all devices connected to it. This includes your ps3. This has nothing to do with you playing on a different pc; it is an issue between you and your provoider. Your provider has assigned you with a dynamic IP so it will change frequently and every time it does you will have to reset your PW unless you have a security token. Most providers won't assign a static IP without paying a metric ton of money to upgrade your service but you can call and ask.

    3. Put up with it and keep resetting your passwords.

I have heard before of someone who called SE and asked them to remove the security feature on their account that forced them to reset their PW. Personally, I'd rather have a security token or put up with the inconveniences of resetting my password than remove that layer of protection, but it's your account so to each their own. I have no confirmation if this can actually be done but it doesn't hurt to file a ticket and ask them if it's what you really want.

    What PetiteMalFleur said.

I'd go with the phone app token. I know what you mean, I've had to contact support too, when the app reset itself. However, it would eliminate the main problem you have. But if you're getting the token again, remember to note down the emergency code! Then you'll be able to reset the password yourself, without needing to contact support, should something happen.

If you're worried you'd lose your phone, you could consider getting it on an emulator like Bluestacks. Not 100% sure this will work/is secure, though, and again, it may reset itself so note down the emergency code!
