    Dye Question

So, are we able to dye gear colors other than what is listed on the recipe list? For example Cotton Scarf is listed in blue and brown, can we dye it red or purple by substituting that color dye into the recipe? If we're stuck with what's on the recipe list that kind of sucks, a lot of the plate gear can only be dyed one color then.

Right now it looks like you can't freeform dye, which is somewhat disappointing since a lot of new gear has less color options than the old gear, and on top of that the different dyes seem to give different stats on gear that can allow multiple colors.

So far this is my only issue with the crafting changes, so it would be nice if we can get some insight as to whether or not dying will be more open-ended in the future.

That's because they are currently pigeonholing people into certain colors based on what stat your gear has. Yep, if you decide you want VIT vs DEX your going to be stuck with whatever color has that stat. Welcome to the world of color coded clone players.

I'm mostly interested in having gear look the way I want it to since you can make up stats with materia.

Yeah, this dying system is ridiculous. The point of dying gear is character customization, but when you add stats to the mix you're forcing players to choose between form and functionality. If they choose the color they like, then they could end up feeling gimped, or even feeling forced into switching colors due to min-maxing considerations, but if they choose the color with the most appropriate stats they may be stuck with a color they hate looking at. This was a really poor decision by SE, and I hope they reconsider.

Yeah, that kind of bummed me out as well. I mean even with this system, if we had the option of a choice of dye I'd still choose the color I like as opposed to the color for the stats I want lol. But yeah, it's essentially forcing certain roles to use certain colors which is pretty lame. Hopefully they do reconsider.

Adding +1 to the people who aren't impressed with this new dyeing system. The changes are taking away a valuable character customization option for no apparent reason, and I also hope they reconsider.

As is, might as well just make the coloured versions of things completely different pieces of gear because that's effectively what they are.

I like the gear customization part, making it better for a certain class and whatnot. I don't think that should be tied to dyes/gear color, though. I hope the split those aspects in the future...and bring back the pink.

    Ugh. Just ugh.

Why haven't the devs realized that players want to show off their precious PCs and pick their colors without a color having any drawback? If they can't fulfill a basic player need of "I want to make my PC look like I envisioned him" I don't think this game has any hope.
