kind of a late reply to this but..

yes the current set isn't as big a jump as previous sets, that doesn't mean I didn't think about my response and I am not quoting stuff verbatim. maybe you should think instead of accusing someone of not thinking.

the reason it sounds like a standard response is because its the bare truth around crafted sets.

Why not introduce a couple non repeatable quest lines that culminates in a single piece of raid quality gear? It can be tied to an npc that acts similar to a retainer venture, but on a longer timer. Send him out to get some materials that you then bring to another master craft npc who instructs you to craft a part of whatever piece of gear you're aiming for. Fail the craft and you have to restart the quest, succeed and you get instruction on what material you need next. Make the timers/difficulty balance the reward.
It would allow us to make a couple BiS items for ourselves or to sell, but it would not be enough to flood the market.
Now that's a constructive idea! *thumbs*

Pretty much. In a progression environment, you go through potions at least three times as fast as you go through food (and probably more like five or six times the rate if you're able to use them every cooldown). I have no clue what prompted them to change this.

I'm almost positive this is some sort of oversight by the devs. When you get Draconic potions as your daily GC turn-in, it still asks for 3 potions. I'd say that I don't understand HOW it hasn't been fixed yet, but it's pretty obvious that crafting has been shunted off to a lower priority position for 3.0.

That's entirely possible, and yes, I'd agree that they don't seem to have place crafting at a high priority right now.

I really hope the situation for crafting improves. Even the way glamour gear was implemented is kind of silly. I thought we would be able to make some really cool looking combat style items, and the look of raid/dungeon gear would become more plain or see repeated designs. A fun idea would have been if the items found in dungeons were all in a state of disrepair and looked dull and crafters could sell a repair kit specific to that piece of gear to restore it to its glory.

something like that would become mandatory which they stated they don't want.

If they release i180(?) crafted accessories, at least there will be SOME reason to craft stuff. But, it'll require Tier V materia to hit any caps.

i180 Slaying accessories would cap for VIT with 4 Grade V and a Grade III VIT at least, I think. Not as optimal as older ones where you could squeeze in some Det or Crit too, but Vs wouldn't be necessary to at least achieve the main purpose.

If they do add them, there's going to end up being a serious imbalance among the crafters.

Well, SE has had their favorite crafters (GSM in nearly any patch, ALC when it came to Terminus Putty and LTW when it came to FC3). Introducing an imbalance is nothing new to them.
