I might be playing this game for the wrong reasons

I'm starting to realize I might be playing MMO for the wrong reasons. It's a MMO, but I hate leveling. What I enjoy the most is dressing up my character. I wonder if I should keep doing it or else that's just too weird?

There aren't good and bad reasons (unless someone plays only to harrass others).

If you're having fun and don't mind paying the sub, what does it matter why one plays the game? Well other than the reason stated above.

It's included in the game so it's not a wrong reason at all. I hate the levelling too.

Wrong reasons would be things like:
Being forced to play because someone is holding you at gun point.
Playing because you don't like sunlight.
Trying to use the game as a dating site.
Because you feel like you have nothing better to do with your time.

Actually, I think you are playing for the right reasons. Many gamers focus on leveling and then end-game to exclusion of all other content. Others take the game as a way of collecting stuff, including or especially outfits for their character.

Seems like your reason is at least as valid and weighty as anyone else's reason for playing.

I like to dress up Kosmos, I like to interact with my friends in-game, I enjoy the less intense content, I play with my spouse and child, I play for those reasons and many other similar ones. Ultimately I play to relax and have fun, and if that means spending 6 hours to obtain something to redress my virtual doll with, so be it.

Nah, I play for these reasons too. I personally love to think of MMOs as giant dress up games. <_<
The best looking outfits are usually in difficult raids so it tends to be fulfilling for me in more than one way.

This is my main draw to MMOs and RPGs in general.

Where are all the people who are always saying vanity isn't content, vanity isn't a reason to play, vanity doesn't affect gameplay experience for people, etc?

I'm sure they'll be here soon. But here's yet another example of the failure of their arguments

Vanity is important enough to the OP to be their primary reason for playing.

Totally a valid reason to play. That's what is so great about games like this there's something for everybody. I pretty much play to see how many hundreds of millions of Gil I can make even when I have nothing in mind to ever really spend it on. It's just what I find fun. I like doing dungeons and quests and crafting too but primarily I try to make crap-tons of Gil =D

Just play however you want there's no *wrong* way to play except, as others have stated, if you're goal is simply to harass other players. Sometimes it *is* fun to run through a crowded area slapping everybody though but that doesn't really hinder anybody's gameplay. It's just funny!

As long as your way of enjoying game, doesn't include harassing others, then there is no "wrong" way to play. In DAoC, there was a guy who spent years roleplaying as the mayor of a town, he never lvl'd above lvl 5. Some people found him annoying, but for the most part people had a good laugh at his antics.
