    Returning Crafter looking for help

I came back with 3.0 but it has been so long I have forgotten a lot re crafting and some things appeared to have changed. Two main questions:

    1. How does the script system work and what does it help you do etc?

    2. I am 60 Cul, 50 Carp, 50 GSM, and 15 ALC - what is a decent macro/combo with the set of skills I have with those? Most of the macros I have seen posted have many more cross skills than I have.

    Thanks.

1 - it does not help you do anything. Rather, it acts as a major hindrance in terms of getting materials. Basically, craft something that Rowena's shop calls for, as a collectible (talk to someone in Mor Dhona about that), and then hand it in. Pretend you are adding Quality to make it a HQ item, except you may not need to add quite so much (if its a Blue Scrip item).

2 - to be an effective specialized crafter, you need to have the levels of an omnicrafter. Especially true for high level recipes! Get those other crafting classes up - which will also have the side benefit of re-familiarizing you with what the various moves are, in addition to the main benefit of getting the cross class skills you currently lack. Going over 50 is optional, but I'd strongly suggest reaching 50 in all 8 of the crafting classes.

    1. Red scrip system is effectively a block or gate on materials needed to upgrade crafter/gatherer gear ; it is not a pleasant system. You turn in new "collectable" items for them and need materials with the scrips to craft the gear. The materials are not easy to get at all.

    2. What he said ^ all craft and, all gather at 60 and geared. Unfortunately for those in your situation alot of work ahead.

You really need Cul 37 and everything else 50.

Its all about the cross class skills.

The specalist system may give you a break. It seems designed for those who do not have all 50s. Those of us who do have all 50s have looked at it and said WTF???

Check it out, I have not researched it.

Crafting is like dungeon farming. Weekly caps on scripts, rather than instance you in to the content, they instance the content out to the open world with hidden node spawns. Instead of a party lock on class, you have a recipe lock on parts and while you can kind of solo it, you will do it over larger blocks of time.

From a technical perspective it's actually quite smart. From a gaming perspective, it's just a lot of waiting around for timers.

In terms of what the OP likely cares about...

    1. Scrip system is an excellent way to level (that's probably what you care about). You synth an item like you normally would, but before you start, use collectable synthesis. The items you make won't stack. Only make collectable stuff when Rowena's turn-in people actually want it. (Ctrl-U on PC to check). The exp bonus is pretty huge. I think it is safe to say that about whatever you'd get for exp for the synth, you get 4-6x more on the turn-in.

    2. No idea how to help you there. I'm not good at figuring out CC if you don't have them all at 50. Sorry ;;

Another thing to keep in mind about collectable turn-ins. While the exp for a level 51 synth may stink when you are 58, the exp bonus from the turn-in is still the same. So, when you do this, find a synth that is _cheap_ to make. And just zerg that.

Crafting collectibles are decent, but potentially not worthwhile before 56. At that point you will want to hand in stuff for Blue Crafter Scrips so you can get the Master III book.

Exp-wise, Collectibles are similar to Leves - except that you do not get any bonus for handing in HQ. Weigh your expected exp and manufacturing costs accordingly.

All good points. I just like that there is no limitation to the number you can do. Don't have to cycle leves (that even a thing in HW? Or can you force the same leve you want over and over?) You get a bonus for "HQ." I personally have checked the exact numbers on a crafting leve HQ vs a collectable at highest tier. The blue scrip item I always looked for was Dragon Fang earrings. If you keep a healthy stock of dragon fangs (back when I did this, they were 300g or less each and I had plenty. Hardsilver nuggets these days are pretty cheap, since the sand is pretty cheap (at least on my server).

With that combo, honestly, I'd ignore worrying about blue scrips at all on other jobs, unless the "cost to make" a blue-scrip item was sufficiently cheap enough to make it worth the extra exp bonus. I'd estimate that about 7 of the 8 books I bought were all from dragon fang earrings probably earning 0 exp. Fast, easy, cheap.
