Do any of you get that its a freaking game Land reform does not apply in a game. Cornering the Housing market doesn't apply in a game. You do not make REAL MONEY INSIDE A GAME. I can care less about that link to land reform cause it doesn't apply In a game.

People need to take a chill pill, lol. From the way that I'm understanding the response from Naoki Yoshida is that they're devising a system where it will save the state that your house is currently in and then move it off of the plot of land. This way, if those players come back, they don't lose everything aside from their place (heck, they could also implement a ticket system that allows that player to move their house to a same sized lot with a greatly reduced fee). This would keep player's housing areas current and active without having to constantly add more room to the servers. It also wouldn't cause a giant uproar since the inactive player/Free company wouldn't have to wait as long as anyone who wasn't filthy stinking rich within the first year of the game's release has had to wait just to have plots available for purchase.

They could also take individual housing and actually make it a seperate thing using this method, creating instanced single house plots of land, which would free up a lot of room on a lot of servers in terms of small houses.

Since when is character of other person restricting other people from playing? Even crowded servers can be joined at certain time plus I believe it depends on active players, not unsubbed. Same goes for inventory. The reason we have data problems is, that players' data are sent to server every 15 seconds, I believe this doesn't work for unsubbed players, as their data don't change.

This argument is just so simple it became a joke. Also we aren't talking about one month here and many people stated that people who lose houses should be refunded.

You are comparing very different things here. When I use up one of my inventory slots someone else doesn't lose one of theirs. When I make a new retainer someone else can still make one as well. And when I make a new character, other people can still make new ones too. They just might have to wait a couple of days, and even still the wait time is not directly related to the number of characters on a server but rather the number of players online.

Housing is limited by server space in a way, but it's also limited by game mechanics. It was made a server wide in-game resource. Nothing else in this game is a good comparison. When I buy a house (haha I wish) someone else just lost their chance to get one. The wait for another open housing plot can be as long as months, unlike with character creation. That's why the inactive plots need to be cleaned up, taking into account subscription times and permanent bans. E-mail or Mog Station warnings before the cleanup date, keeping the furniture available on some restoration NPC and a token for a same sized house would all be nice gestures. If retainers were pulled from a limited server wide pool, same should apply for those. And if there was somehow a hard cap on characters per realm and it filled up within days of becoming available, then yes I would want the inactive and banned characters to be removed as well after sending a warning e-mail. Some games already do this.

A less extreme example would be character names. WoW releases the character names of unsubbed accounts after a while because they don't allow surnames and there are hundreds of thousands of characters on each realm, making it very difficult to find a normal sounding name without accents. Returning players get a free name change if their name has been taken. It's kind of like mobile phone numbers: you can keep your contract up and get to keep your number, or you can terminate your contract and risk that someone else gets to use your old number. Or like rented apartments. If you move away it would be ridiculous to expect your landlord to keep the apartment ready for your potential return when they could be getting money from someone else.

Active customers' satisfaction should always come first because they are the ones paying for new patches, bug fixes and server upkeep and they are also more likely to be subscribed in the future than long-time inactive players are.

Should have never been a limited resource to begin with. They really screwed the pooch on this one.

At some point, if you don't start putting inactive plots back for sale, you'll just end up with ghost towns.

Limiting available plots was a bad idea from the beginning and I'm amazed they didn't see this issue looming from the start.

Why quit then?? Seriously i do not understand some of you arguing about how it should be "yours" forever!!! Point blank if you are not paying to play the game like the rest of us you should not keeping things like this. If you quit paying your mortgage on your home in RL believe it or not but the bank will ACTUALLY tank the home back....shouldn't be any diferent on here. If your not paying your sub....because you own NOTHING in this game SE does...then it should be taken back.

And if they are not going to fix the inventory system you all need to let go of the fantasy that the housing system will be done correctly. FFXIV: Entitledward is wat this should have been called.

It's not the server space that's the issue, it's the other resources. That unsubbed character is like a thumb drive sitting on the shelf, while the unsubbed house is more like adobe updater constantly running in the background and checking for new updates.

Are you really that selfish? if you quit the game, that means you do not intend to play it. you mean you are going to pay a sub fee just to keep your house that you will never use?

I am legit curious as to what goal you had for that kind of plan.
