password security driving me nuts...

Everytime i login from work or some other place i get my account locked out and i need to change password.

This has become such a hassle and god knows how many time i had to change passwords because of this incredibly stupid features. It doesn't even remember places i've logged from thousand of times.

How can i opt out of this feature? I am really tired of it and makes me want to login less and less. I travel a lot and play from different places so this is really annoying to me. It looks like the system is set to lock you out when it sees a different IP period. That is the most lazy security work i have ever seen and it really needs to be changed. If it was a different country, sure that seems odd and by all means block it. But the way it's setup up now it block you for anything.

I believe having a security token or the security token phone app (free) removes it, not 100% sure as I play from the same location all the time. You also get a free in game teleport location for getting the token or app.

Actually, that is the exact reason the system exists. Whenever your IP address changes, it requires you to change your password. Once you have done that, that IP gets recorded as trusted. However if you either have a dynamic IP modem (rare, even "dynamic IP" modems are usually static until you don't pay the bill and the service gets terminated) or you constantly connect to different networks then you will always have to change the password.
Three options are available:
1. Either live with it
2. Get a security token
3. Quit the game.

The security is there for everyone's safety, though not everyone will appreciate it.

Security token (physical or app) will remove this feature as the onetime password supersedes the other security feature. It also grants you 1 free teleport location of your choice.

Just make sure if you use the app (recommended since physical tokens are often in short supply, can be lost, damaged, etc. and cost money) that you record/ remember your retrieval code/ password to remove the app from your account. Occasionally updates to your phone/ tablet can mess with the app (I've heard), but mostly you will need it if you get new hardware (which will happen eventually, obviously).

If you logged in one day and found your character passed out in some remote location completey stripped of all items/gil and left for dead, you might appreciate this security feature.

If you're on PC, you can use the app there with BlueStacks. I've never had a problem with it.

I got my token back when it was first offered for XI players and have never regret the decision. Still using that same token to this day, though I won't lie that I'm counting the days till it stops working. Getting your account hacked is a terrible thing and I've had a friend of mine in XI suffer such a fate. It wasn't fun to watch, I sure as hell wouldn't want to have been in their shoes. The annoyance of constantly reset passwords when traveling is the price of Square doing the work of securing your account for you. Live with it or get some manner of token, choice is yours.

While the security token is great for the security, FFXIV's system is a bit overzealous. Any IP address change forces you to change your password, even if its from an IP range from the same ISP. They could tone it down a bit.
