    GPU getting EXTREMELY hot?

I have a well ventilated PC. 3 Chassis fans including CPU fan and GPU fan. One Chassis fan is right next to my GPU. No matter what graphics I play this game at, I have to turn my fan speed onto 100% or else it will go into the 80s and start freezing my pc.

Whether I'm on drawing quality 1 with 0 AA and no background detail or Medium-High graphics, I get the same exact FPS with the same exact heating problems.

I just cleaned my whole case out of dust yesterday... I'm afraid this game is going to ruin my graphics card.

GPU = Nvidia Geforce GTS 250

The polygon count is the problem. The devs (whatever the kupo they were thinking) have not included any setting to reduce the polygon count. So whatever settings you apply you will still have 10000000 fantastillion polygons needing to be rendered.
    Workaround: Reduce gpu memory clock.

since its a 250 i'm guessing you have had it for over a year? if so, you might want to change the thermal compound in the graphics card if you know how and if you have been running it hot for awhile. Ive had my 460 for close to a year now and the card gets hotter and hotter from playing the game( started at 70c and got as hot as 99c). changing the compound helped get it back to the 70's.

also lowering the resolution of the window helps some, coldfire's suggestions would also work. you can change the clock speed in the nvidia control panel

I have two 460s in SLI and if I sit in the bar at Limsa Lominsa the temp of my main GPU will go into the 90's. I will admit though that I have my settings up pretty high and my cards overclocked a fair bit.

I can play The Witcher 2 at max (minus ubersampling) and my temps often stay below 70C.

I use 2x 460's as wel with settings all on high and only hover around 70-75c. What drivers are you using? If it's the new 280.26 ones I'd roll back to 275.33. Many other people are getting hotter temps since updating the past week.

Even if three people have a 460 the temperatures may differ due to the OEMs putting different cooling systems on them. If it's really that bad you might consider replacing it.

My reason for concern is im getting a lot of artifacts (screen tearing) as if im overclocking really high when im not at all.

I have 450GT the Temp is at 70-75C but my old 3870 Temp for FFXIV change with Updates. In Beta1 Temp was 80-85C Patch 1.17 70-78C and then 1.18 went back to the 80+c -.-.

So update also change your Video card temp but wont happen to everyone but this is a issue with some video card.
