It isn't both. It's faster, but it's different than before, and some people are having a hard time adjusting to the change.

It's faster for parties. Solo XP sucks so much right now, and since the low levels (1-20) are mostly people trying to solo...yeah XP feels like it got hit really hard early on.
Can't even find a low level grind party >.> Maybe in a couple weeks, people will catch on and learn that party grinding is the best way to level and then I, too, can level...but yeah this patch sorta killed solo leveling for 1-20![]()
Peach Parfait/Khulan Angura on Gilgamesh
Leve mob base SP went from 50 to 100 if anyone noticed.
Also there seems to be no reduction for lower level people in party anymore ("Bonus" totally removed)
This means a L50 can come and just destroy L40 mobs for a L20-30 and he will get full SP/Links/Chain bonus

That is the point Yoshi wanted, so people who friends just joined dont have to play/wait/chore out for a year just to catch up. Its win.
At levels 10-20 I'm actually getting a lot less exp per mob than before the patch, this being solo though.
For example in the leve Revenge of the Dodos I was getting 103exp per mob as a level14 gladiator on 3 stars and I actually had to lower the difficulty to 2 stars cause I was running out of time because killing the mobs was way slower than before, on 2 stars I was getting around 70exp per mob, which is really nothing for the effort. Finishing the leve rewarded me with 608 experience points (at least 50% less than before).
Also tried a solo camp where I used to head after hitting level 12 or so, north of camp horizon with all the syrphids and coblyns, but I wasn't able to kill anything efficiently at all anymore.. 130-180exp from mobs that I can barely kill and after which I have to stand still to recover my hp and mp for at least a minute doesn't sound very good at all. Also a syrphid 4 levels higher than me basically destroyed me.
So have you guys tried low level soloing or any soloing at all after the patch? Or are we supposed to start partying from level one now?
From level...10-20 perhaps! So have you guys tried low level soloing or any soloing at all after the patch? Or are we supposed to start partying from level one now?
At least I have had no need to group up at around level 5.

The thing I have come to realize is, every time I am mad at SE because something seems so bad (different) relative to what I am used to (based mostly on my experience on FFXI), I eventually get used to it and enjoy it. My point is, before some of you argue the logic of the experience, do as Yoshi and the team says and try it. Play the game for a week (its been like 14 hours or so) then talk about your experiences. Although I haven't had much experience grinding post-patch, I can tell you leves were harder solo (for my 30 LNC), so again, SE is promoting party play but also allowing soloing (with the addition of 99 leve allowances) but are making it a bit more challenging at the same time. In sum, I think the game post patch 1.19 will prove to be a fundamental change that laid the foundation for the experience moving forward. Hopefully we look back in a year or so and see that as the first piece of many great ones to come.
