As poster above mentioned, it's about having the community. Moreover, Balmung has a lot more to offer than RP. The real question is why Square is stuck with this antiquated server model.

I thought that's what the RPC was for? For RPers to plan stories and character development & to keep in contact outside of character. I wasn't saying individual roleplayers should move I'm saying you as the Roleplaying community make one giant leap for RP kind.

Idk I'm just saying the RP community isn't small and Balmung was full of non-rpers as well, I bet the RPers would make up a good server size if moved to a low populated server. But like the OP pointed out I think the main reason your community stays is because everyone got hung up on the "Balmung is the unofficial RP server" and no one wants to break from that and get use to another server.

FF seems to be a rare bird that does not designate RP servers...For what you are proposing to work, they would need to: a) designate Balmung and <insert random server here> as RP Servers, then b) offer free transfers from Balmung to the new server so that there is enough "seed" population so that the server has the intended atmosphere..

Awhile back before 2.0 launched it was brought up on the beta forums by the RP community that they wanted a server designated for them with the (RP) tag. A community rep then replied saying they passed the idea on to SE and that they planned on implementing it, but then they never did.

I bet if you got the topic buzzing again you would get an answer, but like I said above I think its hard for the RP community to break away from Balmung in general cause it's the server branded into the brain as "The RP server".

The person who recruited me plays on Excaliber... so even with her recruiting me, I found I could not get in. She told me about the transfer (plus fee), but I pointed out that in writing, they say even for transfers, there is no guarentee. Didn't want to pay money only to be denied. Of COURSE, being a recruitee SHOULD get me on the recruiters world, not deny me. This is a very bad policy.

I tried login in at the times the "restricted" list got posted... but soon saw that by evening time (EST) there were maybe 2-3 at most open. So I starting getting up to catch the 7AM list... after a week, I saw Excaliber was never open. I DID hear Yoshi P. plays on Excaliber...

An old WoW guild mate who is playing FF said maybe I can try after world maintenance around 2-3 AM. Did my research and saw most of the time they get back up earlier than the stated time, can be as much as an hour (they tend to end 7AM my local time). Waited for the day, set the alarm for 5:45AM, started trying. Think it was around 6:30ish that I saw them come up and bingo, at that point, ALL worlds were wide open. Got right in.

I suspect it may take them ~5 mins after they come back up to "re-apply" the restrictions. This MAY be the only way going forward... until/unless they do some re-engineering to avoid such issues (hate to say it, but Blizzard has this under control... when the current xpac dropped, they picked up 3-4 MILLION subs (clocking in at 10 million) and were totally swamped, folks were getting "your are 4,567th in line to get in." After 2 days of that, I was not seeing such messages, although it did take another 5 days or so for EVERYONE to get in w/o a queue.
