Currently I'm a Rank 12 LNC in Gridania, and truth be told, I want to be able to level solo. However, with the new update screwing up my old set-up I'm finding it a bit hard to go about my old regimen. Any suggestions for where I can grind for XP?

With the patch just hitting, it's going to be difficult for anyone to talk intelligently about grinding locations. The battle system has undergone some serious changes. Mobs have been moved, new mobs have been added, and the range at which you want to fight mobs -- especially solo -- is completely different than it was before patch 1.19. But if it helps, here's an old thread giving some grind spots. I can't say if it's at all accurate now -- or even helpful -- and you'll probably want to try to fight mobs at or below your level until everyone gets the hang of the new battle system, though. But maybe some of those old spots will still be accurate in terms of the mob levels (even if you'll want to wait a few more levels before fighting those mobs).
Good luck!
Thanks for this, this'll help me out a great deal. I was wandering around the Shroud last night and with the new and more numerous mobs they placed I managed to find a spot with a TON of level 8-9 funguars that gave me about 100 XP each and since no one bothered to touch them I managed to make it to 13 in about an hour, finally managed to complete the "Beckon of the Elementals" quest, so now I'm going to work my way to Ul'Dah to progress with the story.
Truth be told, I don't care much for loot or leaderboard standing or whatever. I just want to complete the story, but with the way that they changed things with this new patch...I just don't know if going solo will be as easy as it was before. I barely have enough time to play the game as it is, but if this is going to become another MMO like WoW or what XI was I have my doubts that I'll be sticking around. That was the appeal for me in the first place: To be able to progress on my own. Especially because a majority of players I met in the past were melodramatic and all the LS's I joined before were chock full of arrogant, conceited players. Never doing anything constructive to help me learn to play my class, etc.
I wanted to avoid elitists at all costs, especially.
I'm pretty sure the giant XP reward for the completion of leves is still there, so you should be able to progress solo using leves and quests.
Unfortunately it isn't at least not in the 1-20 regions.
Grinding chains either solo or with a small party is defiently the way to go. Myself and a duo partner were doing Leves with as many stars as possible usually +3 or +4 last night and getting less than 1 extra mob worth of XP for completion.
Leves seem pointless now and we are saving them for crafting. Maybe that changes at higher levels tho.
I'll give an L40 leve a try solo and let you know.
I don't mind doing mobs solo, though because I'm a LNC I don't really think I can handle chain mobs. I tried once already and failed miserably. I'd rather just be in active mode for 3 consecutive mobs, take a break, and then continue. It's worked so far. That, plus I can invoke my guardian's aspect for a leve, kill some of the objective targets and leave one left and just farm a few more mobs for whatever time I have left then kill the last one. That should work too, right?Unfortunately it isn't at least not in the 1-20 regions.
