Not really. It'd be super weird to be riding around on an old Elezen dude's avian alter ego. Considering everything Louisoix said about his desire for Phoenix to be kept secret, I don't see how a lore reason could be invented.

Besides, explaining that to Alphinaud would be... awkward. o.O

FFXIV can't make nice looking mounts. If they made a phoenix, it would probably look retarded just like Warlion or Midgardsormr does.(PS3 LIMITATIONS, SERVER LIMITATIONS). I'd rather they redirect their resources into something more important.

Yeah on the secrecy front that's a good point. Still though, the moral of the story is more BLING in mount form please. Kirin was a step in the right direction!

Don't think that'll happen. Phoenix is a major lore figure in the game, and if you want to use WoW comparisons, it would be asking to ride around on Alexstrasza. It's not going to happen. You may as well make a thread asking to ride on Bahamut while you're at it.

That said, I could see them making some kind of firebird mount unrelated to Phoenix.
