Would you pay for a "Premium" Server experience?

First off, no, I'm not seriously making this suggestion for this game. I doubt SE would ever choose to do something like this and I'm not sure it would go over well with the rest of the community.

My husband and I had talked about it a few weeks ago and the idea has been swirling around in my head, intriguing my thought cells. *_*

So the idea is basically, a player would pay $50-ish dollars for access to a Premium server(s). They'd get a more involved GM team that would run events and provide proprietary content. Maybe the dungeons wouldn't get nerfed. The community would be restricted to the cream of the crop that are willing to pay that kind of money for that kind of VIP experience. Maybe even have more support for raid groups.

My husband thought the idea would work better as a sort of integrated thing on the regular servers which I couldn't understand and just found to be unfair. For me, it would have to be entirely separate really. Otherwise, it's like flaunting privilege at the poor... which makes me feel a little meh.

But, if I could afford it, I think I'd pay for something like that in a game. The only one I know of that does it is DragonRealms which is a text-based game. But it seems to work for them in that context.

What do you think? Would you be willing to pay for something like that? What would a company have to add/restrict/do to get you to support such a concept?

Edit: I used a bit of bad wording with "cream of the crop." I more meant maybe the higher pay wall would weed out gold/gil sellers. I agree that more money doesn't mean you'll get the best players. Sorry for my lame word usage. And, keep in mind, I wasn't suggesting this for FFXIV. Maybe after the game has been around 10 years, but no, it wouldn't work with our playerbase.

The premium server would be filled with spoiled kids subsidized by rich parents, imho.

Moreover, should they add exclusive content to premium servers, I'd sure quit my server for good, not to join any other one.

So, basically no, I don't think the idea would work in any way.

If this was a free to play game then sure, sky is the limit! Most people play pay to play games specifically to avoid things like this though. Integrated or segregated, catering to a specific population like that would cause discontentment in the majority of the player base. Many are already off-put by them double dipping with a cash shop in a pay to play environment, triple dipping with what could be seen as membership for your membership would be excessive in mild terms (I heard you liked membership, so I put membership fees in your membership fees so you could...yikes!)

I hate to tell you this, but most people with that kind of money to throw around are really bad players. I'm not gonna say all, but most people who would qualify as "the cream of the crop" are actually terrible, entitled, and toxic to the community.

Make it 100 dollars and you get even less content cut off from the game you're already paying for!

I miss the days when just being in a subscription MMO was considered the premium service vs f2p/b2p MMOs.

- fly without mount
- become a l'Cie
- glamour glowing effect to any weapon
- mount in towns
- no tax for buying/selling stuffs in the market
- break weekly cap
- break glamour class restriction

I pay subs, that makes me a premium player right there. :P
