I think it's working its way towards self-awareness, if only in pockets and small pieces. DRK line gets very self-aware, and not only does Thordan freak out over our impossible strength but even Y'shtola seems to be questioning how what we do is even possible. We are basically hope incarnate, and despite everyone thinking that's the best thing ever it might not necessarily be... they do seem to be setting things up for a major wham episode with the Warrior(s) of Darkness coming into the picture.
Even taking out the "if we die they might summon a Primal in our image" bit, our ridiculous power is wont to breed jealousy and fear. People want to be as strong as we are, but without the Goddess' blessing it's simply impossible, leading them to despair over their powerlessness... fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering, yada yada yada. Even if they're not conscious of it.
Now, can this be applied to G'raha? Sure it can, but that's a hard thing to do because I'm not convinced he was entirely in his right mind when he decided to pull the stunt that he did. Salina's "hope" was his ultimate despair - that he was useless save as a tool for some people who have been dead for about 5 millennia. Unfortunately, along come some Allagans (or rather clones, but close enough) who give him some blood and awaken him to his fate which is, not coincidentally, to be the tool of some people who have been dead for about 5 millennia. So goes tragedy.
He really is (or rather was) in a similar boat to us, bound to a fate he neither wanted nor asked for on a subconscious level. Unfortunately he succumbed to despair or some kind of mental pollution from that Allagan blood after the World of Darkness, and we lost him... but what's done is done.
Was he motivated by hope and faith, or despair and jealousy? Tough to say... but who says it wasn't both?
The amount of time elapsed in story terms is indeterminate, but I estimated 2.0 to take place over 3 months, 2.x over another 3 months, and then 3.0 happens 2 weeks - 2 months later and occurs over the course of roughly 1.5 months. (That "we need to urgently go talk to Hraesvelgr to try and avert the impending attack" bit took WAAAAY [kupo]ing longer than it should have for "urgent" business. Then Nidhogg sits in the Aery until you dutifully come along to kill him.)
Without an official timeline, there's nothing definite.
