Hello
I was curious if anybody else finds that "vapor trail" coming off your chocobo a little annoying. It isn't like its going mach 4 or anything lol

I think you overestimate the speed required to leave a vapor trail when flying. Especially one that dissipates immediately.
It's a chem trail coming off your chocobo that the Grand Companies implanted in chocobos before giving them to adventurers. It's meant to cull the weak and stupid. WAKE UP EORZEA THE GC's HAVE BEEN LYING TO YOU ALL THIS TIME!
Wait, I thought the GCs made the Frontlines to cull the weak and the stupid?
Preeetty sure I have seen a thread like this before. Someone corrected OP there, I shall do here.
It's not vapor, it's a vortex.

It exists in the animal kingdom (see section about formation flight) as well as airplanes, so it doesn't need to go mach 4 or anything to be there.
Personally I think it is a great touch, considering weather seems to affect it slightly, which speaks of great detail. That and the whoosh soundeffect when you pass by a wall or something really brings a great feeling to flying. Good Job SE!

If Batman can do it in Arkham Knight, then so can my chocobo.
Indeed, I was very impressed when I saw how much detail the devs went into with the flight animations and effects. The mounts with wings even flap and glide at the correct times too.
You need to watch life more closely, 'vapor trails' (more accurately con-trails) require neither excess speed, nor any form of chemical. They simply require the right conditions to be present. Watch a F1 race sometime and watch the 'vapor trails' forming in the wash off the top of the tail wing (spoiler) used to create lots of downforce on the cars, even at relatively low speeds.
I agree, good job SE. But I also have to take issue with your post. The condensation that forms in the vortex created by the wing tips can only form if there is sufficient water vapor in the air that the vortex forms in. If the air is dry, the vortex formed from a bird's wing will not form visible condensation and you'll see no vortex, 'vapor trail' or con-trail at all. So, yeah, water vapor is required, and in common use people refer to this phenomenon as vapor trails.

All I know is that it's going to look awkward as hell on Kirin, but I'll still love it regardless.
