^^ OT pld is dope, their toolkit at 60 has nice support. Cover followed by clemency, divine well, my pally tank partner even does the shelltron>provoke>shield lob just to take a hit when my war stacks are low or bloodbath/foresight drops off.

PLD has always been a great OT since 2.0. PLD OT became that much better with 3.0 additions. PLD was crap in 1.x.
WAR has always been a great MT since 1.0. WAR in 2.0 lacked a bit, but as a matter of fact, only things WAR couldn't solo MT in 2.0 were T5 and double Dreads in T4. WAR MT became a power house in 2.1 and beyond.
Nothing changed for these tanks in 3.0. These two just got better at what they do in both roles, MT and OT.
DRK is a great MT in magical fights. DRK has the same basic defensive CD structure as PLD. DRK OT lacks utility but brings good DPS.
As I said, any combo of tanks works perfectly as long as you know who should do what.
One thing to note is if you don't have a MNK DRK is a little nicer due to delirium providing the int down debuff.
If you do have a monk pld is nice for str down debuff and still get int down debuff.
Drgs work nice with Drk
Mnk works nice with Pld
Nin works nice with War.
Just nice due to rotations and debuffs supplied, not at all required.
You shouldn't be pairing DPS one by one with the tanks. DPS ratio to tanks is 2:1. Unlike healers to tanks. One thing to note is if you don't have a MNK DRK is a little nicer due to delirium providing the int down debuff.

NIN buffs all three tanks equally. As a matter of fact, NIN works better for the other tanks just because of Goad. But WAR synergy with NIN is good because they can drop DE.
MNK and DRG get and give no direct benefit to and from the tanks. But they have their raid utility.
The right way to look at it imo is:
You don't need a MNK if you have a DRK.
You don't need a NIN if you have a WAR. But WAR adds to NIN nicely.
DRG is king of DPS and there is no reason not to bring one, like ever!
Unless you are on EU server, latency is killing their optimal play for most as there is no way you can weave 2 oGCD's durning GCD its just impossible(NiN is on same boat due mudras). So because of this MNK is actually most optimal melee class for EU players if you are suffering from heavy latency/delays.
But even on my server (which is EU) DRGs are outDPSing monks.Unless you are on EU server, latency is killing their optimal play for most as there is no way you can weave 2 oGCD's durning GCD its just impossible(NiN is on same boat due mudras). Ninja also works well with Drk for the slashing debuff. And Dragoon just works well with anything/everything thanks to battle litany, but I see the point you're trying to make.
That was pretty much my point i was just trying to keep it brief as i am on phone. Thanks for the elaboration. You shouldn't be pairing DPS one by one with the tanks. DPS ratio to tanks is 2:1. Unlike healers to tanks.

As long as you have a WAR + PLD or DRK you're golden for current content.
