Folklore tomes are one of the most disheartening things I've come across

Hit 60 FSH recently (finally) and saw I'd need 99 tokens for each tome and that there were 3 folklore tomes. I like fishing as a side activity but after seeing what I'd need just to unlock the red scrip grind and simply all the pools, I don't even want to bother anymore, let alone finish my miner and go through that all over again. What's the point of gating things so hard? Didn't they say they wanted to make DoH/DoL more casual?

The Blue Gather Scrips are actually not all that difficult. I've been gathering them, rather than Fishing them. Others have reported better luck with Fishing them however.

with MIN/BOT you can gather 500+ blue scrips every 36 minutes, so after 10 rounds you have one book, it's fine.

...and you can supplement that with catching Illuminati Perches in-between rounds.

I often find myself getting 800+ Blue scrips every round by supplementing with Illuminati Perches.

Doing the math, that's approximately 16 Tokens every round, meaning approximately 6-7 rounds per book. At 36 minutes per round, you're looking at about 4 hours of work per book if you're active.
NOTE: The above figures do not account for buying Brute Leeches with Blue Scrips, which can slow down the process as Brute Leeches are the best bait for Illuminati Perches.

Is it a grind? Of course it is. But it's definitely easier than it looks, and it doesn't help that it looks REALLY daunting.

You can get red scrips without the folklore pools.

It would appear that it isn't really difficult to do, but it still seems like a pointless, forced extra step that definitely looks quite daunting and had me crestfallen. Red scrip seems to be a whole other issue that definitely has me considering holding off on mining due to future time constraints.

Yeah, they definitely made gathering one of those things that is certainly not for the casual player, which is very unfortunate.

Red Gathering Scrips are definitely more of a grind than the Blue ones. Especially since once you get enough Blue scrips and buy all the tomes, you're pretty much done. Red Scrips have a weekly cap and getting the necessary items to their necessary rarity is very hard if you don't know what you're doing.

There should be guides online for gathering items for red scrips. That entails gathering Adamantite Ore and Chysahl Greens at a Rarity above 470 and Thunderbolt Eels of a rarity above 813, I believe. At least until you start getting your red scrip main hand tools and folklore books, which will allow you to gather folklore items for red scrips as well (which is significantly harder and requires you meeting certain stat caps, but grant more scrips)

But you can do it! =D

Actually .. I find that getting the Chysahl is enough for my RGS needs; I gather the Adamantite as ore, not as a collectible. I'm still gathering the Morel/Cuprite, but I find I don't have time to get the 10 oclock BGS node in SoC.

I also farm morel, cuprite and illuminatis. Very convenient since all are on the same map, and you do not need to use cordial too.

Also buy leeches bait from scrip vendor. It greatly increases chance to catch illuminatis (and highland perches ).
