Returning player is lost (as always).

    Hello everybody!

I've been on FFXIV for quite some time now, but I never became a hrdcore plyer due to the fact that I was always alone in-game. This time I decided to start playing again and even brought along my wife, now I think I won't end up alone.

I've a couple of questions. I'm sry if they're already solved somwhere here.

    1) What would be the standard "path" to follow in-game?
Not doing quests -> more quests, by "standart path" I mean about changing classes, going somewhere else other than the main path, these things. I know I have to level up Marauder, but I'm not sure when do I stop leveling lancer and go for Marauder.

    2) I can become whenever class I want? Like, become a Dragoon and then become a Ninja?
I know that I can become whichever 1st job I want (marauder, lancer) but I don't know about these higher classes

I've some other questions but can't remember them now, they always come to me when I'm playing and then I forget them.

    Thank you!

    Welcome back.

Firstly, an important thing to keep in mind: After you hit... level 10 or 15? You can change classes and jobs any time you want. If you're just curious, want to experiment, or maybe even your first choice isn't what you hoped it would be... change & change back any time you want.

As far as class paths go, typically it's class -> secondary class -> job. For example, to unlock Warrior (job), you would get Marauder to 30 and Gladiator to 15 (the order doesn't actually matter), and then do the Warrior quest. Typically you want to do this as soon as you're 30.

There are other considerations for cross class skills. For example, although gladiator to 15 is the minimum, taking it to 22 gives you provoke, a very important tank skill.

Feel free to ask away with any other questions, and good luck!

At least by the time you hit 30, though you could do so sooner if you wish. The requirements to unlock Dragoon are that you have to be at least level 30 as Lancer, at least level 15 as Marauder, complete your level 30 Lancer quest, and have done the Main Scenario up through at least the (level 20) Sylph-management quest. It doesn't matter which order you complete those requirements.

You can advance as many of the classes and jobs as you want. My own main character, Y'kayah, is currently a level 50 Bard, level 50 Ninja, and level 37 White Mage, and I'll get all the others eventually. There are players with all 13 combat jobs and all 11 crafting/gathering classes fully leveled. It just means dividing your time and attention between a greater number of goals, so can take a while, but none of the jobs limit what you can do in others.

As Risvertasashi mentioned, it's a good idea to at least try out each of the classes for a bit, see what they're like and whether any of the others interest you enough to continue further.

    Welcome back!

Risver has covered most of the basics, but one big piece of advice which actually ties in with changing classes/Jobs is, make sure you keep up to date in the main scenario - most of the game's content is actually locked behind story quests (the ones with the meteor icon), so playing through the story will allow you to develop your character further. In particular, SE changed the requirements in a past patch for unlocking Jobs to requiring the level 20 main scenario quest 'Sylph Management' to be completed first - no doubt in an effort to try and control bot characters from levelling. Either way, if you're already past this quest in the main story, then you have nothing to worry about.

With so much content at 50 that I haven't done yet, I want some time to finish off ARR content before getting HW. I've actually already bought the expansion, but haven't registered it yet because I want to stay at level 50 until I finish the 50 content. I like being on-level for the content I'm doing and don't want to accidentally outlevel either the old ARR endgame content or the early part of Heavensward content before I get to it.

Guys, thanks again for all the answers!

I have a couple of questions:

My wife will play as Arcanist/Summoner, which of these two would be best to party with her, Ninja or Dragoon?

The equipments on the market (behemoth server) are too expensive, is it normal?

either dragoon or ninja would be just as suited with a smn, nothing to make one class better suited with it over the other.
Equipment on the marketboard is often costly, but allmost everything sold there comes from vendor npc in game. Go to the map for your current lvl, look for a vendor, and you'll probably find the same equipment alot cheaper.
