For those of you still doing the relic questline and during the Novus stage, here's my way to grind lights nowadays.
As posted here reddit post, the lights are doubled once more after 3.0.
There are people still grinding Garuda HM but very less frequently.
I find that the most efficient way to get lights now is to grind fates in Central Thanalan or Central Shroud or Middle la Noscea. Feeble now gives 4 lights and therefore takes 50 fates to get up one level. You will down a low level fate (lvl 5 - 20) in +-2 minutes. So that's 100 minutes. Only 1 hour and 40 minutes depending on frequency of fates.
In order to lighten the load, no puns intended, queue for Keeper of the Lake, Amdapor Keep HM, or Wanderer's Palace HM for Brilliant light (24 lights). If you're lucky and hit a bonus window on any of these, choose that one only for Blinding (48 lights). Considering that one dungeon takes 20 minutes to complete, that takes around 160 minutes of dungeon runs ONLY to go up one level. That's 2 hours and 40 minutes.
General tips:
- Avoid Collection fates. These fates require you to collect items and give to the fate person. It takes around 5 minutes to do it and a waste of time.
- Get your bird out. That's one more DPS going in and great for bosses.
- Use AOE if you have them.
- Prioritize on Dungeon runs than Fates as Fates can run out for some time. Also, fates can always respawn but maybe not that run for another 10 minutes or so.
- Camp activatable fates : Fesca's Wish in Central Thanalan, Summerford's farm in Middle la Noscea or The Bannock in Central Shroud.
- If you have newbies helping you, let them finish the fate. Kill about 60% of the fate then run to the next one.
- In Keeper of the Lake last boss, the best place to stay is 4 steps either left or right from the dead center of the arena.
-In AK HM, tank can go DPS in the Gauntlet Arena and don't need to agro all the mobs.
- Don't queue for Low Level roulette if you have HW. It may give you the HW dungeons and those do not give light. Same for Trials (Ravana and Bismark do not give lights.)
- Don't go to Coerthas even if there are fate parties around. It still takes more time than low level fates plus scaling there is ridiculous.
- Don't run High Level roulette if you are not prepared to take newbies with you. There are loads of them nowadays.
Took me 5 days or so to get 2000 lights with frequent rests in between (real life situations.)
The same can be done with the Zeta phase.
