    Social group content

Imagine content that provides players with the opportunity to help each other out - operative word being "opportunity"; i.e. it is (only) your mission should you choose to accept it. No obligation. You see someone having a hard time, you can help them out and get a token reward.

Firstly some additions to the UI. Players doing such content will have an icon next to their name so you know who they are. If you right click on their name you can see what they are doing and will get an "offer to help" option. They will then get a prompt, if they accept, you will be grouped with them and be able to see their current quest objectives and can help out - no more the "Cannot interfere with other player's duty" message.

After the objective is cleared, the group auto-disbands - so there isn't the awkward leaving phrase.

In addition, a "cry for help" button that places a clickable link in zone chat that others can click to check out what is up and offer help if they are willing, would be helpful as well.

What do you get for helping? Karma for when you meet St Peter at the pearly gates, (possibly) the other player's gratitude, and a token bit of gil/exp/maybe an animal skin/hide or two - operative word being "token"; it's not meant to be significant.

Eh, I don't really see a decent return on how much time they'd have to spend on putting something like that in. I get the point of it though. Something to help encourage helpfulness.

Could you imagine the time new players would have with 10 lvl 60s around them trying to claim that help function to grind out for the Glowy Chocobo Barding of Awesomesauce (or whatever)?

So basically you want a mentor system?

You can always cry for help in the chat box...that's kind of a reason why we have a chat system. There's always a PF....

Surprising there's quite a bit of people that "cry for help" in the chat box, especially now with temple leves and treasure maps. The one in the duty can still invite other players to join them on a duty.

Also, even if there was an award for helping others, not many people will take the time to help someone out. Besides adding an award to something like this will only bring out the worse in people.

Well, it does smooth out the process a little.

No need to post coordinates. No need for the player requesting aid to explain the whole objective.

Players who are thinking of lending a hand can at a glance see if the other player is nearby - I mean if he/she is at the opposite side of the zone ... by the time you get there; not to mention if you are already busy with something and have to fly back ...
