If you put the savage content aside, I find the game to be a good challenge in some fights, the problem comes when you want to clear said fights with other 7 random people that don't coordinate together very well, or are kinda new to the fight in question, so you get all kinds of fails and mistakes which makes the content harder than it actually is, I'm talking about myself too of course.

The game is pretty faceroll easy and like others have said, there's no mid-content. The only thing that makes the game "difficult", is bad players who refuse to learn/listen

The game is too easy compared to FFXI. In this game, everyone wins and it caters to the casual gamer for more profit. I'm not hyped at all about HW because the amount of content added by paying the cost that would equate to a brand new game.

    What was hard in FFXI?

Unless you're equating hard with time consuming or needlessly convoluted.

I would like to consider housing and house decorating to be fun mid content- except with how they handled it it's not. =-(

I believe SE should keep the amount of easy and hard content as it is (atleast for now) and should start implementing mid-difficulty content from time to time (1 harder side-story dungeon etc.), no need to put DPS checks in there as we know that it is what facerollers hate the most, but maybe some mechanics that can be already seen in raids and primals and not in dungeons (too lazy to think now, but even the laser-tethers in A4 are kinda nice.. meteors from T9 with less damage or maybe debuff only, so they don't wipe the party but it will be definitely better to avoid failing at them).

I think if SE started implementing mid-difficulty slowly, everyone would adapt and improve at the same time. There would be some rant on forums, but there is always some rant. People were asking for mid-difficulty content since day 1 and people were asking for nerfs since day 1 too.

99% of XI's "difficulty" could be boiled down to one of three things:
    - Needlessly long travel time (without the Tidal Talisman, getting to Einherjar required a 10 minute boat ride with a 10 minute wait if you missed, or using a consumable item to travel through a maze then running through aggressive territory, which also took about 10 minutes. Tidal Talisman cut that down to three zones and five minutes, only one zone of which had aggressive mobs.)
    - Unforgiving, no do-over mechanics (you lost control of Dynamis Lord, it was all over) thanks to strategies that required 2-hour abilities
    - Competition between groups for scarce resources (HNM pop claims, scheduling Dynamis zones, and rare party members)

XIV eliminates the travel time and makes building a party for any given content much less frustrating (cross-server duties in Duty Finder, and Party Finder.) Open world resources like Hunt NMs are shared and all fights are instanced so you don't need to reserve Coil Turn 9 two weeks in advance. This isn't necessarily making the game easier so much as it is removing the tedious pointless BS that is anything but actually playing the game.

What IS actually easier: XIV is considerably more forgiving about failed attempts. Imagine having to get ejected and then go build another pop set each time you failed Titan HM. That was FFXI.

The game offers a large range of fights and dungeons in terms of both difficulty and overall complexity but I think some kind of extreme mode dungeons would be nice. I think there is still too large a jump in between a dungeon and say a Coil/Savage Alex raid and a middle ground there would be nice. Plus not everyone enjoys larger scale party stuff.

Doesn't have to be too much. I just don't like having the only decisions and choices we have to make in the dungeon being "Shall we pull one or two groups. Screw that lets get the whole room!"

Go into DF and you'll know why the game is so faceroll because most people are terrible.
