Correct, hard to master doesn't bother me. Like I said, the rotation can have complexity as long as it feels okay physically. I'm not looking for easy I'm looking for something that's not overcluttered and needlessly convoluted.

"Ignore the aoe" is a poor argument, since it means you're ignoring things that are a direct DPS boost. If you're going to ignore it just because it's low potency and a 30 second CD, you'd have to ignore, say, Blunt Arrow on BRD. Same with Contagion. If we're not gonna count it as part of the rotation just because it's a 60 second CD, there go most of the CDs in the game. At that point you're ignoring Invigorate, B4B, IR, DWD, Duality, Mug, and TA on NIN, for example. If you played SMN, you'd soon realize there isn't much managing to do considering they've made many abilities either get reduced dmg to egis, or just not affect them at all. Oft times you honestly do not have to worry about it, esp with garuda. Contagion and radiant shield are the only two abilities one will often use, as the rest are either a dps loss or plain not worth using and it aint hard to use them once per minute. One can even ignore the AoE ability and it would go largely unnoticed as its low potency, small radius, and a 30s cd.
A better argument would be something like this: We're only really talking about rotational abilities, so Summon, Place/Heel, and Obey/Sic don't count, because you can pretty much fire-and-forget those before the battle. Sustain is rarely if ever used, Physic never used, and Rez used only if something has gone wrong and it's the SMN's turn to rez. Also, Tri-Bind is nearly useless.
That argument at least reduces the number of keybinds without sacrificing DPS.
