Can I log in with existing account if..

I have an existing FFXIV account without the expansion. A friend has gifted me the base game plus the expansion on Steam. Will I be able to log in through Steam, with my existing account, and have access to the expansion or will I have to create a new account? I'm sorry if this is posted elsewhere but my search efforts have been fruitless

If your base game isn't Steam, then the Steam expansion won't work. Also, if you switch to Steam, you won't be able to use your mogstation account/characters.

Steam accounts are separate from PC accounts. So unless your existing account was also a steam account you can't use the existing account to log in on the steam version.

If your existing account is not steam based, then you'll have to use a non-steam activation code for the expansion, unfortunately. The reverse is true too, if your original account is steam then you're locked into steam for all future expansion purchases.

He gifted me both the base game and the expansion through steam. Ugh starting from scratch doesn't sound like fun since I already have 3 level 50 jobs. And my existing account is C.E.. Plus my sub renewed just 2 days ago. How does sub renewal work through Steam?
