You can just surf the net, learn what is the "best" skill tree, and follow it, no questions asked.
    No headache guaranted.
So...you want to give people the opportunity to make bad choices and directly cause other players even more suffering for objectively bad play?

The only actual customization in this game is through the illusion of materia melding (Zodiac Weapon and crafted gear), glamour and party composition. You have your pseudo-customization with your cross-class skills, but most jobs ignore the few skills they get because they're beyond useless (Physick & Ruin in White Mage is dumb).

Adding in the suggested customization would be completely foreign to this system, especially since party composition is the only real customization in this game. While it would be fun to specialize in a certain elements as a Black Mage, taking a glance at other games and classes you come to realize that not only would Square Enix have to completely redesign all classes and implement an entire new system to do this, they would also have to create so many new skills and different playstyles per class that you'd being to wonder why they're changing how FFXIV works and not just make a FFXVI. And besides, what would an Ice Mage do over a Fire Mage? Slows? Vulnerability? How about Thunder Mages? Stuns? Silences? While these myriad of debuffs may seem fun, you can already tell which classes will be preferred over the other, considering ailments aside from damage reduction (Storm's Path, Virus, Disable, etc.), vulnerability debuffs (Trick Attack, Foe's Requiem) will be preferred over others as most other debuffs are either useless in most situations.

In addition to this, you'd have to recreate encounters (Primals, Coil, Alex.) to accommodate Yoshi P's vision have making every class viable for all content. What this idea is suggesting not only backtracks the game itself but requires more effort than I believe some can comprehend.

On a side note, just because you can doesn't mean you should.
(Ignore text in picture. Refer to being able to put 6 Magikarps in your party).

Excuse me, why do you play DRK when half of tank threads claims that WAR is the absolute "best" ?

Caduceus' ever-building damage stacks on both snakes served as a DPS check and soft-enrage.
On you could feed both snake to bring back their stacks...

Conflags were a DPS check. You were putting fireballs in the conflag to increase the time allowed to meet said check.
Killing adds before they reach a death zone is a DPS check.

Rafflesia's Slugs in the final phase were a DPS check.
Using a limit break to kill one slug and letting the tank run around is anything but a "DPS check"

Every example you give for SCoB and FCoB
Indeed, but does that mean that the other mechanics were skipped ?

Problem is that all you HW example are only DPS check except maybe the oppressor.

I kinda like being able to look at a persons job and know roughly what to expect. I don't want to have to ask "are you a healing WHM, a DPS WHM, or a Buffing WHM... This is what people wanted and asked for back in 1.0 I was part of that survey and I know what I selected. No one cared back then but now that its popular all the armchair devs are coming out of the wood work trying to say "what's best".

Looking forward to your game when you make it. I might have to try it out, then tell you how you could have made it better!

    EDIT:

The customization you are looking for is slowly coming. Best example is the WAR. I can now switch between Tank and DPS (at 60) and its identifiable by the Defiance buff symbol.

And the "stuff is already unbalanced so its ok to make it even worse" argument rears its ugly head again...

It's a lot easier to balance jobs without having to take different specs into consideration. You know, that's the reason why only Arcanist branches into 2 jobs, the development team realized it was a pain in the ass to balance both SCH and SMN because they shared most of their abilities.

I mean, sure yeah nothing can be a DPS check if you just completely change the meaning and ignore the facts. That is some gold medal material for the mental gymnastics.

A1 savage is a dps check
A2 savage is a dps check
A3 savage some mechanics still a dps check
A4 savage who knows no one has beaten it. (safe bet is its a dps check)

The current endgame content is definitely a dps check.
The reason they are currently a dps check is that it's the easiest way to make them not beatable day one. The other ways to go about it is to make it a tank/healer check, which would just result in 3 healer parties or to make the mechanics so difficult/damaging that only the elite groups stand a chance until they eventually nerf it or you can dramatically overgear it.

I swap around to whichever tank my group needs for best performance per fight in Savage? It's terrible, but oh well the price you pay for raiding in an unbalanced game.

Like in WoW how talent choices/tank classes were swapped on a per fight basis because they were the best for that fight during progression.

Which was terrible, but oh well the price you pay for raiding in an unbalanced game.

Hint hint actively antagonizing this is also terrible.

I think what he is meaning by DPS check is that it don't matter if you wear I90 or I300. If you can't play jump rope or rotate your skills right. You still suck and can wipe. Or you can be an i90 player and be better than an I300 player.
