No, you're thinking of n00b, which is the insulting version. Newbies is the more general term for someone who is new and is usually not an insult.

Not really going to argue about this, but in no way has the word ever been used as a positive one. n00b, newb etc are just variants of the same thing, because the internet loves shortening everything. If you're trying to tell me that "newbie" doesn't sound worse than "new player" you're only lying to yourself.

No, actually, miles is correct. "Newb" and "Newbies" are nowhere near negative, it's up to you how you want to see it, but that's the same as anyone who would just suddenly think random words are offensive. "Noob" is the derogatory word.

Ahh I'm a new player on a japanese data center: mana and server: anima and name: Chihaya tatewaki and I'm having trouble with the language barriers. If there was someone on that server to play with or just to help with understanding simple japanese phrases I'd like that. I can read hiragana but I'm terrible with kanji. I know its a weird kinda thing to ask for help with but I just lag too much on the american servers and I'd really like to be able to at least understand when they ask me to do things. I'm here from the Reddit thread, but I would like some help myself as a Monk and Ninja. Right before HW released, at i130, I was barely pushing greater than 500 dps in T13, with pots and food. I have a level 60 NIN, at 171 and fear I'm still kind of doing that bad DPS. Also leveling MNK at 42, and could use some help with rotations, not only to be good, but maximize my output and be beneficial to my static.
