Lots of people have cited like "Viera are PERFECT because of x, y, z, from FF12". Like a while back when someone said "They're masters of all weapons in 12! That's perfect for 14" or when people said "Sky pirates?! That's Ivalice! Viera!". I think the biggest issue with that is people really want it, and what they want are the Viera from 12, not just like.. "bunny people" straight up Viera.
They definitely do have it, but I just think adding a new playable race that's heavily "based" off of another game's race feels a little too much. Leave it too side references like sky pirates and whatnot.
Shrugs, the race may be themed around that idea, but they surely don't look like it. I mean, you have a race that rarely sees the men (making it so you only got to saw the women) and wore a lot of clothes that look emphasized more "feminine" things and can look akin to "battle bikini" stuff, then in a future game there's a version of them that are more waifish and cutesy. I think they're really aimed at "Hot/cute bunny people" especially if the Viera have little to do with their 12 incarnation, then all the lore about them doesn't exist.
Except unless if this game took place.. Prior to 12 (As someone stated they apparently become way more open to the outside world), I don't think like "They were just hidden from the world" would work. Like I think why apart of the reason why I'm so adamant about it, is I really don't want this to be a sudden "Surprise you're in Ivalice!!" because that just seems so lazy and awkward, especially when 12 has no mention of stuff like the Warring Triad or CT. I want a story about Hydaelyn, if Hydaelyn happens to have a race that is bunny people, I hope to god they're not named Viera and I hope we get a race with women and men who look really tough and fierce (with low sexual dimorphism) next.
I definitely can agree to disagree, I just wish my want of having a race where the men and women are both tough and don't have massive differences between wasn't immediately dismissed any time it's ever brought up. If I got what I want, I'd be just fine with whatever else, but competing ideas for a singular idea tends to put people on edge.. And I am kinda sick of the hype around it, not gonna lie.
Yeah, they really messed up with the Au Ra. I think the dudes look unique enough that they can stand out, but the girls look way to similar to the Miqo'te/Midlanders. There's so many like minor contradictions too, like the scales being color locked and yet girl Xaela scales are like bluish and not as black as the dudes while Raen men scales have like a more yellowish tint to their scales. The girls are done really badly imho, and they tried really hard to give them a sense of identity like locking them to 4'9 to 5'3 instead of giving them a height range from like 4'9 to 7'3 or something, the faces also look super similar to Miqo'te/Midlander faces imho.
Even the "We couldn't make them dragons cause Ishgard!" excuse makes zero sense. Demons aren't welcome anywhere in Eorzea and there's Sigurd in the Forgotten Knight so it's not like Ishgard would kill them on sight (well they did.. Because they looked draconic apparently, but that's in the past lol).
