You can request your fierce females (even though we had midlander and roegadyn). Viera will be how they were designedin FFXII. If SE wants a fierce female race I hope they don't use viera.
Good thing I, and many out there, don't want a fierce female race. Give me my stoic, calm, and beautiful Viera.
If what people want is a gay men race please request that. Nothing wrong with that. That's how I see every "I want a fierce" female race talk feels to me.
I feel like the verbs attributed to Tolkien are kinda hefty in this thread, the look of elves was completely taken from Scandinavian mythology , maybe not the early Viking oral stuff, but for sure the stuff in High German and later centuries, Nordic elves were tall, pretty, blonde etc. Tolkien drew on this, he also drew from they same mythology for dwarves, he did invent orcs though, there might be something he's inspired by but he really invented those. What he did invent as far as elves was that "immortal" struggle that plays a part in the novels, that the elves always have these odd jealousy of their moral cousins and vice versa. Elves were though of as whimsical, hidden, and mythical before, not really as "human" like Tolkien portrayed them as (ie having feelings, relationships etc) although in Scandinavian/Nordic myth elves did lay with men (female elf to male human) and create children. The statement Tolkien inspired modern mmo and rpg elves is totally true and I am in agreeance with that, although some did go straight to the sagas and not to Tolkien, they were just being hipsters![]()
This is taken straight from wiki, don't know what their sources are (too lazy), but I also read similar info in books about Tolkien: The modern English word elf derives from the Old English word ælf (which has cognates in all other Germanic languages). Numerous types of elves appear in Germanic mythology, the West Germanic concept appears to have come to differ from the Scandinavian notion in the early Middle Ages, and Anglo-Saxon concept diverged even further, possibly under Celtic influence. Tolkien would make it clear in a letter that his Elves differ from those "of the better known lore", referring to Scandinavian mythology.
If you are really interested its kinda funny, cause Tolkien was inspired by the original sagas and written works by others on the myths, but now those same works he was inspired by in turn are inspired by Tolkien's commissioned artwork for the Hobbit and LoTR. Its an interesting thing, so I can see how one can eclipse the other till the people forget the earlier.
Honestly if you aren't really well read up in Nordic mythology , it can help a little from time to time in FF gamesand its way cooler than that Classical stuff.

Both Midlander and Roegadyn, the women aren't half as fierce looking as the guys. They're always smaller, heck with the Roegadyn, the women are like half the thickness of the men.I'm not looking for a race that's relatively "fierceness" because lmao, we have lalafell, everything automatically looks more fierce than them. There just isn't much Viera would legitimately add, especially when chances are they'd just be either tall Midlanders or Elezen with Miqo'te faces and bunny ears glued on. Plus like, I'm not sure how you'd really have calm or stoic, every race is automatically calm or stoic until you use the emotes..
I just want something like a humanoid variant of the Charr from GW2 or something. Not a "gay men race", just a race where being a girl doesn't mean you're automatically shorter than 90% of the guys you meet and you always look pretty (And in some cases, you might as well look like an entirely different species). It's so overdone and leads to the Au Ra problem (Or really the "Fantasy race" problem), which is liking the aesthetics of the Auri men means liking an entirely different thing than liking the aesthetics of the Auri women, and if you want to play a race that looks like they come from "Warring nomadic tribes", you're stuck with making a guy. I mean, Viera just don't really add much to the plate and asking for them just really sounds like "Give me more hot women, SE". Which hey, that's fine, but it really doesn't acknowledge that adding them isn't unique in the least (Not in general or within the context of the game), and still just continues to pander to the same crowd (i.e. The one asking for conventionally attractive women) with zero leeway for other demographics (Folks asking for badass looking women, folks asking for a beastman race, folks wanting something unique, et cetera).
... However, if you start talking about how Elezen with bunny ears aren't what you're asking for, and how Elezen don't look "Stoic, calm, and beautiful", maybe we can at least see eye to eye on the game not giving us what we want when it comes to the current races and aesthetic options.
Also, interesting look into history of elvish races, nice job!

Viera is nothing like an elf besides being tall. It's the problem male aura have, people call them elves just because they're tall. Everything is either an elf or a hyur to you people. If roegadyn and midlander aren't fierce then to please such a small % of people that want a woman monster (going beyond roegadyn/midlander) is essentially a monster doesn't help bring in as many people as you think. FFXIV in a lot of ways is FFXiI, the first race concept to be added besides Aura was them. I'm done talking to you though, it won't lead to anything. When your only argument is that you want something fiercer than roegadyn/midlander and that you don't want cute females anymore you're on the extreme side of reality. And before you challenge what I just said, asking for a race that appeared in FF is more normal (and one with a FFXIV design) than asking for a "fierce female" race that was supposed to be Aura (reptile race). And even with the Aura you probably wouldn't consider their original design fierce enough. To you fierce is an extreme definition. The midlander females take it very far already. You can reply if you want but I'm done talking with someone whose definitions are extreme and idealistic instead of considering what the FF series is and what influences it has. Maybe what you need is another game, GW2 maybe?
No, please. They're ugly, just like the Au Ra.
