    Loot system suggestions, thoughts, and your opinion!

    Hello All..,
    I have been thinking about the loot system and how can it be enhanced. I still think the current one is very fair and works fine. Also I like the new "Loot Rule" feature we had in 3.0.
    I have some ideas for what might be a more useful system for FFXIV, since FFXIV allow you to play any class and any job in one character, these suggestions comes in favor for those leveling multiple classes/jobs.

    The current system as follows:
    Primary--->NEED conditions: Item's class/job must match current player's Class/Job
    Secondary--->GREED conditions: anything else
    PASS

    What I have in mind is some suggestions that I would love to hear your thoughts about.

    SUGGESTION 1: This one is easiest to apply in my opinion and less complex.
    Primary--->NEED conditions: Item's class/job must match current player's class/job AND required level to use the item must be no more than 5 levels below current level.
    Secondary--->GREEDconditions: anything else
    PASS
    this way, the system reduces NEED abuse and give others a higher chance at the item.
    E.X: level 35 PGL CANNOT NEED on PGL items level 29 and below.

    SUGGESTION 2: this one is similar to suggestion 1 but with a little twist but I believe it is fair.
    Primary--->NEEDconditions: Item's required level must be equal or 1,2,3,4, or 5 levels higher than your current class or alternative class's level.
    Secondary--->GREEDconditions: anything else
    PASS
    with this system, people can level their classes/jobs simultaneously with good chance at items.
    E.X : CNJ item level 25 dropped, then player with current class ARC who have level 20 CNJ can roll need on the item.

    SUGGESTION 3: this one is kind of a mix between suggestion 1 and 2.
    Primary---->NEEDconditions: Item's class/job must match current player's class/job
    Secondary---->Alt NEEDconditions: Item's class/job must match alt's class/job AND be equal or 1,2,3,4, or 5 levels higher than alt class/job.
    Tertiary--->GREEDconditions: anything else
    PASS

    So, any thoughts? is there something I overlooked? got something else in mind?

    I quite like your suggestion, though I would make it simpler:
    NEED - only on upgrades, so anything that's ABOVE your current iLvl for the current slot.
    GREED - anything else

    Btw, you can edit your post to avoid the 1000char limit.

    What if I want to farm items for glamour? I'll just have to put on lower ilvl gear and actually make the run slower.
    Or what if lower ilvl gear is actually better (BRD WoD chest for example)?

    Opinion: The system is fine as is.

    So make it that you can only NEED on stuff that's above the highest iLvl in your possession that you can use.
    If you are going for glamour, you should have the same chance on getting it as everyone else = GREED.

    Well we still don't have tp bars... wonder if the ps3 can handle checking ilvl of individual pieces. Just pointing that out, the system is not that bad need abuse is not that common.

    You're suggestions would work great if everyone's play style was focused around the ilevel of an item, however to many (like myself) most item's value comes from its use for glamouring. Still other players use gear for collecting or desynthing. Your suggestions make it unfair for anyone who is seeking gear for any reason other than an ilevel boost, but the system the game has now keeps it fair for everyone. I prefer the system as it is now.

    Your suggestion is not more "fair", it is just based on different set of assumptions, one that is perhaps derived from the name NEED/GREED/PASS.

    Let's rename that to:
    • NEED -> Job/Class Roll
    • GREED -> Secondary Roll
    • PASS -> PASS
    And think of the current system in terms of these new names. You'll realize that the concept of fair or unfairness with any form of prioritization is a contrived one at best. Real unconditional fairness is the GREED-only rule. All that your suggestions do is create a system that prioritizes rewarding less well-geared and/or lower level players, i.e. in the same way you consider the current system unfair towards low-level/less-geared players, your suggestions are unfair towards higher-level/better-geared players.

    For true fairness, I propose greed-only rule as the default loot rule in DF.

    I like the idea of only needing if its above your current ilvl. This would stop some of the inane needing, especially in things like large scale raids, etc. I feel that greed should continue to be free for all though as anything else would frustrate the player base.

    I understand the glamour argument... but is glamour a need? It only affects you and not your fellow players so I don't feel that it is a need thing.

    If you are looking for an item as iLevel upgrade, you actually NEED it. Thus you roll NEED on it.
    If you want it for anything else, you don't NEED it, you WANT it. Thus you should GREED on it to make it fair.

    Your glamour, or desynth, or collection reasons are just as "valuable" as gearing alts or expert delivery. Not to mention glamour for alts.
