    Just got tacklekeep's rod...

Pipira pira keep getting away like no tomorrow with 528 gathering and 419 perception, and this isn't a big fish or anything, just a white level 145 fish for a level 58 culinarian recipe. Honestly, this is freaking ridiculous... would it hurt so much to see what the catch ratios are and if they actually increase more the more gathering you have (common sense says yes, but my experience is telling me the opposite). I've spent 3 weeks collecting these horrible red scrips only to notice absolutely no difference on my fish catching rate with the new rod -.-.

With that i150 HQ rod and all the other "i150 set" HQ (as you put it) and my melds, I'm at 505 Gathering 457 Perception. Meld your gear, TC, or upgrade from the Blue Gather Scrip set and then meld your gear.

its most likely your stats as most have said. Before i upgraded to the tacklekeepers rod i was about 580ish gathering with 100% catch rate. (assuming all my fish got away are very large Thunderbolt Eels <.< and now that i upgraded im about 615ish gathering without food/fc buffs.

when i got the rod, i already noticed a difference in my red scrip gathering as well as gathering fish in general. just get thoses stats up

I have the same stats and usually see 2-3 get away per window. You probably were having a bad day.

How does one get a Tacklekeep's Rod? I am new to fishing and DOL, I just got to level 60 on fishing and I'm loving it!

    Welcome to fishing!

Tacklekeep's Rod is the Red Gatherer Scrip tool. Did you unlock collectibles yet? If not, you can start a quest in Foundation near where the Temple Levemete is to get it. I believe after you unlock collectibles, you need to do the quest "Go West, Craftsman" in Mor Dhona next to the Scrip Exchange to start getting scrips.

From there, you can check your timers (The menu where you can check stuff like Grand Company turn ins and stuff), and check what fish are collectibles for the day. At the top you should see some collectibles that give Blue Scrips or Red Scrips if you get them at a collectability of a certain number. To get the rod you need 26 Red Gatherer tokens = 1300 Red Scrips (3 weeks of Red Scrips) and a Fishing Counterfoil which you get for trading a Collectible Thunderbolt Eel with 834 collectability +.

You collect red scrip fish (collectable) and buy red scrip gather tokens which you can turn in for gear. the tokens can also be used to unlock hidden nodes for 5minutes to get crafting mats and if you have miner or BTN 60 then you can get red scrips that way too. Which is more reliable.

What bait are you using? Are you using the Goblin Jig or Bladed Steel jig? I suspect if you're using the latter then it might not be the Pipira Pira getting away, it might be Thunderbolt Eels (assuming you're in their catch window). I was out there with a NQ Birch Rod and Blue Scrip gear using a Goblin jig and I caught 20 Pipira Pira in 30 minutes. I had much better luck with snagging on (don't know if it's required, but it seemed lucky for me) and without using the perception buff skill that I can't remember the name of (assuming you don't need HQ fish).
