If you play for the story, then you'll want/need to see 2.55 (especially the end) in order to continue on to Heavensward anyway. It isn't "filler" and it isn't irrelivent. If you play for the story, then why would you want to skip chapters just to move on to the next book?

I can understand being upset that jobs and certain other content may be locked behind the story progress, but I just don't see how getting a refund for HW is a productive solution. If you wanted HW content so badly, then why not just move forward and complete the story (which is what you play for anyway) in order to unlock it. No, you don't get the instant gratification that some may expect from an expansion, but it really doesn't take that much work to just grind through it to the end to reach that content that you really want.

Essentially, you complained about not having access to Heavensward at 50 due to the story quests, yet your solution was to make it so that you are now completely unable to access Heavensward at all....

Ultimately it is your choice on whether you want to continue playing or not, but it seems to me that if you went through the trouble of creating a post about how disappointed you were about HW access, then you care about being able to play the game. The only thing limiting you at this point is yourself.

That IS part of the story. It's not "filler content;" the story was designed to be released over a period of months with each new patch.

You like the story, but you don't like the story? 2.0 had even MORE pointless filler fetch quests than any of the future patches did. The story in 2.1-2.55 was much more to the point and moved faster than the original MSQ with less fluff.

Honestly, at this point you sound like you're just complaining that you can't have everything RIGHT NOW. 2.1-2.55 take a week at most to clear; my FC helped several people through it so they could be ready for HW and none of them took longer than a week to finish. Most people agree that the story in the later patches is far better than in 2.0, so if you liked 2.0 but not the story that followed, I don't know what to tell you.

There's good story and lore- there also IS a lot of filler.

Can anyone really argue that there are unnecessary boring filler quests that could easily be removed without losing the quality storytelling elements?

I think doing that would alleviate a lot of the issues people are having. Ok, if it is going to be gated, at least make sure the gating is meaningful- take out the busy work filer that was just added to keep people busy at max level.

I am not saying I agree or disagree with the gating decision. I am saying that I disapprove of its execution.

You play for story but are mad you can't skip ahead a major chunk of the MAIN STORY and have to deal with "fillers" and "irrelevant" content?

(SPOILER ALERT) So you're telling me you would be ok suddenly finding your Scion HQ no longer in the Waking Sand and all your main scion friends gone. There is an entire ninja clan helping you for some strange reason. You killed an Ascian but you wouldn't know how and why. You are somehow a refugee in a cold icy land which they only let you in cause of the aid you lent them against a huge heretic and dragon threat (huh when did this happen?). Oh and you have a dragon sometimes floating on your shoulder and you no longer have the blessing of light.

Yep totally filler material.....

I will say though you are actually pretty close to finishing most of the 2.x stuff. Probably should have asked some friends or FC mates about it and I think they would have told you to stick with it especially if you were looking forward to the HW stuff.

I play for the story as well. And every single one of those 'fillers' you say were actually pretty good stories that chained in together. Perhaps you should spend more time with them and pay attention to what you're skipping. They're a fairly contingent story there. And it all ties in together as to why you end up in Heavensward.

I can't help but think of this when I see threads asking to be able to bypass content so they can then do the content that it leads to.

One thing I would like them to do - is reinsert the Red Text that serves as a "To be Continued" between each chapter provided in each patch.

One of the good components in the branching story arc between a Realm Reborn and Heavensward is that it was episodic, with clear definitions in to each story. When played when they first came out ,each story was a small story in and of itself that was part of the greater scope, and they had stronger punctuation between them thanks to those black screens. If they kept that in the story-line quests, people would know they had completed a chapter, and treat it as such. The story would likely seem more comprehensive if it was received in its original intended format - instead of binged through.
