MMOs used to have plenty to do to keep you busy, forever, without getting burnt out or taking 2-3 month long breaks. Now they've turned into Facebook/mobile games where you can only do so much before you have to wait a week.

Yep, FFXIV is MMO-Lite to the extreme. I love how many times I hear "Are you kidding FFXIV has so many things to do [insert short list that every MMO has and does better]". Leveling being the de facto in that list. People, once you have leveled a couple jobs, that is nothing new and incredibly boring. After a dozen jobs it's down right tedious.

People really need to stop using "go level other classes" as example of new content. There is hardly anything new about doing the same exact dungeons I did leveling all the other classes before over and over and over. Part of the issue is that the dungeons are repetitive and some people's idea of new content is to run those same dungeons again....and again....and again....until I have all classes to 60 and start the repetitive gear treadmill again.

Also, this is an rpg, and call me old school but to me RPGs are about developing your character which is something that conflicts directly with the "be any class and any time" idea of FFXIV. That's more like a MOBA than a RPG. Another element of RPG missing is customization so you can develop YOUR character. My whm is identical to everyone else's whm. There's nothing special about my character that makes it mine. It might as well be a premade hero like in DOTA.

The main problem with the game for me right now is the chore feel of it. The expansion launched what? 2 months ago? and we already have gotten 4 different sets of lvl 60 gear which are obtained by repeating dungeons (or hunts) over and over. It doesn't really leave much time to enjoy anything else about the game. Worse, it makes you feel like I am working for nothing; that my armour is about as valuable as vendor gear, waiting to be replaced on the next zone or dungeon.

Give us time to enjoy our gear, give horizontal progression, options, something to make our characters feel our own and not just another premade template.

That's why I'll be happy when my NIN hit 60, and then I MAY take PLD and WHM from 50 to 60. just to keep in lines of having each role to do stuff with. Leveling NIN is already a chore, though, since I now play casually.

At least in 1.0 I had a weapon that was unique to me, miss my 4x int melded wand, people used to offer me in the 10s of millions for it (100s of milions in XIV terms). All your points are spot on but someone from WoW is about to reply to you that this is how all MMOs work.

Woah chill out. In 3.1 we get to be more unique by sitting differently than the other people in town with nothing else to do!

Going to get hated on for this, but in FFXI you could log in and have 20 things you could be doing. You had multiple "endgames" (sky, sea, limbus, dyna, salvage, einherjar, KSNM/BCNM, etc etc etc) that you and your group could be doing on a given night. There honestly isn't that much in this game for endgame. "HAVE YOU BEAT A4 SAVAGE BRO?!?!?" No... but even when people were working on PW and AV in FFXI there were still other things they were doing that they were gearing up from.

Honestly 4 fights every 6 months for "progression" is pretty lame. I was really looking forward to some sort of change up when the expansion hit.

You don't have to play, you know.

But at least it's progress that someone on the 'bored' side turns around and says that Alexander is new content.

I don't disagree, but that's kind of an unfair comparison. Your list from FFXI contains ~5 years and 3 expansions worth of stuff.
