As for you keeping on insisting that we had to log on for us to get the tattoo? NO. You would be incorrect. Once the final data save went through, any character that had been made in 1.0 got carried over to 2.0. When Beta 3 (I think it was 3) happened, my 1.0 data got placed on the live servers, and when open beta hit, I was able to change my character using the new character creation. The only difference from my creating characters now is that their data was not brought over from 1.0 and I had to pick an actual DoW/DoM class to start off with instead of the original Alchemist my character was. Anyone who had made a character in 1.0, even if they decided to not come back to 2.0 in the long run, were eligible to make the legacy character with the tattoo stating that they had been made in 1.0.

I have the original game. I made a character. I may not have played long enough for getting the lowered sub, the chocobo, or my name in the credits. But I still supported the new mmo by buying a copy, installing it, and playing it. You said earlier that you didn't know about it or that SE made mmos. That still does not entitle you to something.

As far as the roleplay thing is concerned, all it takes it "I use a glamour to cover it up because sometimes it attracts the wrong kind of attention," it's actually there and whoever you're currently rping with will have to go back and use their imagination to see its actually there even though it's not. If/when they give you the option for other tattoos in that spot - because it sure as heck isn't going to be the pineapple 1.0 player tattoo - you can use said imagination for it to be the pineapple. That's the beauty of roleplaying. There are some things that limit how you do things, and while yes, having something visible helps but that does not inhibit the use of "My character has the tattoo as well but because I didn't play 1.0/make a character in that time, my character doesn't have it." There are people who do that with no issues. You're going to have to as well until they give us shoulder/neck tattoos for those who don't have the mark of the pineapple. You are not entitled to it just because some people have it and it's in server space, just how I am not entitled to a Dalamud Horn/Original Goobbue mount/Legacy Chocobo because I didn't play 1.0 long enough. I may want them, but I have come to terms with the fact that I will not have them.

I'm neither for nor against anything suggested in this thread, but I'm pretty sure the OP was only suggesting accounts that already have the tattoo on some character have the privilege of buying it for new characters. I don't think he ever mentioned letting non-1.0 accounts have access to the tattoo.

Just leave the Legacy tattoo exclusive and add some new tattoos to the cash shop. Not having a Legacy tattoo is not ruining anyone's gaming experience. Give it a rest.

People with the marking are not blocking anything. SE set the conditions behind getting it, many players do not meet these conditions.

Why are people so obsessed with having that ugly (in my opinion) tattoo that isn't even visible while wearing most sets of gear, and do you honestly think Yoshida would put it on the cash shop? I'm not even a legacy player, I didn't even know it 1.0 existed until it had shut down, but I can see why that would be disrespectful in a way. Sure, you only had to make a character, but there were also those who stuck by the game and "earned" that tattoo. Geez, it's like if WoW players were to ask for the ability to buy the PvP titles only available during Vanilla.
