The fact that an MMORPG has to be the things that annoy the OP is laughable. It's supposed to be a game that is entertaining to some degree. If it just turns to busy work and inter-player competition than it's no longer a game, it's an extension of real life.

Also, I've seen some threads where people are bidding adieu, talk about what was problematic, etc, and there's a lot less going back and forth than when we have something like this even when it's on the same subject. Final Fantasy XIV ARR is far from a perfect game even with Heavensward and it needs a lot of love and fixing to make it really shine properly. They are way too worried about creating set pieces, have no procedural content for replay-ability, and are completely dependent on currency grinders and promotional perks to keep people subbed.

I swear, all I ask for in the AAA industry is if they take to a game model like a theme park design, they also weigh in the cons and bring in at least SOME of the good ideas from exploratory titles like Path of Exile, Dungeons and Dragons Online, etc.

I actually made this topic after a friend of mine who left for 6 months got back and I had to tell them the game just got grindier in all directions. It's saddening to see people leave like that while it could be improved.

FYI, bypass the character limit by re-editing your first post.

I agree with your thread, there is no reason a fun game like triple triad should take me five hours of grinding one npc to give me one card. A card i can't even use until I collect 60. It's got me burned out and kind of bummed, i thought it was gonna be really fun.

I actually agree with the OP. FFXIV tries too hard to keep players playing with tedious grind (and the associated rewards) rather than by the quality of its content.

duh, I don't know how you guys can find that fun...go into a spot...and, that's it lol, of course you'll be burnt out after doing so repeatedly <.<. That's my definition of antifun.
Well it would have been fun if you actually had to go to places you never went before. But as the maps are still very small (yes even those of heavensward), there are no such places.

I'll just say one last thing, because I don't think your neccessarily wrong but WoW was more popular when it was less accessible.
Actually when wow was released, it was the most accessible MMORPG on the market. The strength of WoW is that there is both easy and hard content in the game. Also it is true that blizzard aimed to remove most grinds of the game starting from Burning Crusade.

Why not "get a life"; read a be book, go to the gym, pick up a hobby, etc. Fill your downtime with RL activities and log in for your statics/ crafting/gathering. I myself will only do the pvp roulette. Already have my eso wep, kinda a fool me once(myth tomes) shame on you. Next patch this stuff will be too easy to get. Savage Alex is enough for me

A: you can edit your posts to add however much length you want.

B: while it IS whining, you've got a point. The "fun" features that you mentioned have all been poorly implemented.

2.X sightseeing had such tight restrictions (coupled with some horrible translations for hints) that I doubt anyone hit 100% on 2.X locations without searching for help online. The goal should have been to BOOST immersion, not force players to check online to see what other people had discovered. And for anyone that says you SHOULD do them without outside help... vista 067 says hello. Even knowing how to do that one, the jump took me dozens of tries. I never would have assumed the location was possible to reach if I hadn't seen a video online of someone performing it.

Triple Triad has a lot going for it, but lots of mismanagement as well. You have the "tournament" where cheaters operate in the open and the devs are oblivious to WHY the tournament is not working. You have insane RNG for certain cards that require you to spend tons of MGP just to fill in one or two blank spots in your collection. You can easily drop enough MGP to buy Fenrir, and still not get the missing NON-TRADABLE cards. You've also got a 3-star restriction on your own hand, even when playing against friends, because more restrictions = more fun, right? And let's not forget a drop rate in 3.0 card duels that is so low, I didn't realize there WERE new cards to win from NPCs until I read about it online. 5-10 wins against every new 3.0 npc, and I didn't see a single card, yet I get a griffin card from Dusk Vigil about 50% of the time.

Chocobo racing is a cool idea, but the lag there is so terrible most days that there doesn't seem to be a point in trying. Also, spend your MGP on leveling up your chocobo, rather than spending it on cool gold saucer prizes. Why do the two main gold saucer events eat up so much MGP? Let me buy card packs and rank 3 food with gil, and spend my MGP points on the fun things.

And that jumbo cactpot. Check out the achievements on that sucker. Now consider that SOMEONE on the dev team thought that the achievements felt about right. Either you score a 1/10,000 chance once, a 1/1000 chance ten times, or a 1/100 chance one hundred times. TWO YEARS of winning a 1/100 chance roll each week, and there are TWO achievement titles (moneybags and high-roller) gated behind it. Who thought that was a good idea?

So yeah, it isn't that this game is anti-fun. It's that there are little things that make fun activities needlessly tedious, and the devs need to think more about this when they try to implement something "fun". If the 3.0 sightseeing log is any indication, they have gotten a LOT better with this. They also say there will be many changes and tweaks to Gold Saucer in 3.1, so I'm hoping to see some of the tedium lifted. Fingers are crossed.

Pick up a hobby? I know this might be weird, but you realize we are talking about a video game, right?

I think this voices excactly how I feel. Also, the sightseeing log in 3.0 was a significant improvement. Also, with the news that they are going to adjust the quest types, things seem to be very good. I'm just a little bit more careful about being excited. They've anounced stuff before that sounded fun which turned out to be a chore. Let's just hope for the best

That's just like, your opinion, man. I've had lots of fun with the Sightseeing Log and Chocobo Racing and I plan to start getting into Triple Triad more seriously once I finally get 30 cards (almost there...!).

If you view everything as being a grind and treat it like one, then of course it's going to seem like one. You don't have to have/do everything right away-- space it out and do stuff when you feel like it. Things aren't going to go away if you don't get them within a certain amount of time.
