    How to Repair your LAG!

Most ISPs have given FFXIV the category of P2P software and will automatically reduce connections and put them in a lower queue. What that means to you is slow service and lag. Call your ISP and complain. This is a fact.

How do I know? Just called in for a friend (very not computer savvy friend) to Verizon since he has been having a lot of issues lately and after giving Verizon the specified information. The IP, traceroute, and so on; the tech replied with this IP (the one sending information from FFXIV servers) has been flagged for Peer-2-peer and has been placed in a lower priority queue. After talking with him he was able essentially set up something similar to port-forwards where as if the IP address is directed to the IP address of said friends router it will not get placed into the lower queue. Viola! No more lag.

SE can only request to ISPs to not give it that designation. To solve the problem you need to contact your ISP and get it fixed. This is a problem between you and your internet provider. Not FFXIV or SE.

Or for those of you who are ready to flame at SE, this isn't the first time this has happened for an online game. Blizzard went through this itself before it was removed from that category years ago.

Don't have any lags in swtor, hots, lol and wow, so it's SE fault. Router in bridge mode or normal doesn't matter, only one game with shitty servers like FF14 has problems, so yeah, call ISP, bullshit. The problem is that eu servers are in Canada, I wonder what an idiot placed them there.

None of those games are hosted on Ormuco's lines in Montreal, Canada. There are known and documented routing issues in the states in general, and it has been demonstrated here time and time again that there are routing issues specifically with getting to Ormuco in Montreal. That is an issue your ISP needs to investigate and address--as they are the ones that plan which path you will take to get o any given server on the internet--be that on their own network(s) or by using a third party to get you from their network to that of your destination. Those decisions are managed by your ISP's policies--SE has nothing to do with that.

Look at it this way... just because you may not run into any issues traveling to one city doesn't mean you won't run into issues going somewhere else. Ever get caught in a traffic jam? See a bad accident or construction close off a lane or intersection? Ever experience flight delays/cancellations or have long layovers at an airport? That isn't the fault of Disney, MGM, or the hotel at your destination. Real world events can just happen and knacker up transit sometimes. The same things happen routinely on the internet...which is managed by your ISP's policies and not SE.

I really don't think it's my ISP, but I've tried mostly everything else and am exhausted out of ideas.

I am soooo ready to get back to enjoying this game lag free. So I'll call my ISP up and ask sometime this week. Hopefully I get someone that can help and has an idea what I'm talking about...cuz I'm not tech/computer saavy either. Not when it comes to explaining the stuff anyhow.

I have. Tried the port forwarding stuff as well already...didn't help. At this rate, gonna have to let my static know to replace me, really hate trying to do any serious content in this condition.

Nuzio how would you go about finding out all the info to give to your ISP? I'm a newb when it comes to computer stuff as well. I am on Balmung and use American Warrior Network crappy military internet out of Louisiana. So pretty much on the opposite side of North America with the server being in Canada. Any help would be great cause I can't even play this game during the evening without being disconnected almost every 10-15 mins cause of it timing out.

I called Verizon with the games server IP and with my own trace log and they still said it was nothing that they could do and that it wasn't on their end. What information did you supply to get an actual fix?

I play from NZ to Phoenix (EU) and Siren (US) and I don't suffer bad lag - have had Leatrix Latency Fix applied.

If it is SE's fault, it would have affected me very badly - since connecting from NZ with my ISP (Vodafone NZ cable) via Southern Cross Cable Network to US.
