Hi!
On the first page of the lodestone at the moment of posting, there is a post about the Second Anniversary of FFXIV,
"04/08/2015 FFXIV Two-Year Anniversary 14-Hour Broadcast!"
This is incorrect. FFXIV was, in fact, released five years ago.
Hi!

They are referring to the release of Final Fantasy XIV: ARR not the original 1.0 so this is technically correct.
Does it have to? If you notice now on the launcher before you login it just says 'FINAL FANTASY XIV', and only shows the ARR or HW logo after logging in (depending on whether you have the expansion installed or not). SE now regard ARR as FFXIV, and 1.0 has been effectively abandoned and forgotten in every way shape and form. Like it or hate it, the fact is, as far as SE are concerned, the Lodestone is correct - FFXIV really did launch two years ago.
Except it hasn't;

07/08/2014 FFXIV: ARR One-Year Anniversary 14-Hour Broadcast! (08/07/2014)
To commemorate the anniversary of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn we’ll be hosting a special 14-hour broadcast!
Yes, both ARR and HW are FFXIV, not the other way around. The logo shown is for the newest edition. Quite honestly I think this is a big slap in the face to the people who actually enjoyed 1.x and helped finance ARR by paying for 1.x after they removed the free subscription. You know, the same people that they were supposedly originally making ARR for? I understand why they don't write ARR/HW every time they are talking about the game. FFXIV is the game and HW its current version.
FFXIV is not celebrating its second anniversary.
These are two different things. The copyright shows the original date of FFXIV's release because it has to for legal reasons. Final Fantasy XIV is a title protected under copyright. They have to use the all-encompassing title there.
The commemoration/anniversary is more of a community thing. It's unfortunate that some people feel offended because they enjoyed 1.0, but it was largely deemed a failure and ARR was meant to be a direct relaunch of the game rather than an expansion, so it's only natural that it isn't really accounted for. The development team is not the same, nor is the community the same. ARR was a complete relaunch.
It's assumed that the community understands what the post means. It wouldn't be quite right to celebrate the two-year anniversary of ARR, either, because we're not in Heavensward. Not A Realm Reborn.
Guys, stop! You're making me scared with all the arguing. I will always see ARR as a separate entity than 1.0. If we want to brush 1.0 under the rug, we can and I think that's what's happening.
Ok, I'm going back to hide under my rock.![]()

The original FFXIV isn't considered as a part of the FFXIV ARR and lifespan seeing as how come ARR was a Relaunch of the game, after the original version failed.
FFXIV was released 5 years ago, then cancelled cause it bombed so bad. The 2 year anniversary refers to A Realm Reborn, the reboot and transition from 1.x to 2.x and beyond.
