I've been unsure about this lately, should I pick up some fending stuff or is slaying better? I'm a monk btw.

I'd say get 2 pieces of VIT (preferably crit/det ones, skill speed is good for non-mages in pvp too) and 3 of your main stat (STR, INT, DEX or MND)
Thanks, I'll experiment a bit around to find what I'm comfortable with. Summoners are blowing me up xP
wear 2 - 3 fending accessories if you are a sucidal melee that will run straight in mid of chaos and make yourself a target.
wear melee accessories, If you play carefuly and would not get killed fast.
I used to wear fending accessories on my drg to be safe, but my skill speed got so low to the point that others would kill my target before i do the last killing hit. Then i switched to slaying. Actually it doesn't matter if 1 Smnr and 1 Bard with 1 War following u while wearing fending or slaying accessories .. u would die anyways in that senario.
Best way is to know when to leave battle to be safe, and locate a healer near to u.
so it basicaly depends on u and ur healer.. a good healer would not let u die wther u wearing fending or slaying >.>
I use fending on my monk since it goes well with fists of earth and some other defensive buffs. All the positional based dps on monk makes killing stuff a pain anyways since I have to save lots of CD's to have much of a chance. I do more for my team by surviving and removing aetherflows off summoners/scholars and protect off healers than just killing one target and high tailing it anyways. I actually sort of wish there was a way to become even more defensive as a monk.
Man mode that and go all Slaying. That's what Xeno would tell you probably.

Playing since Beta phase 3
This is an excellent question.
It would probably depend on your playstyle and how often you are dying.
I have seen Raw Destruction hit for over 9k (OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!) so I'm considering using a piece or two myself on MCH just to survive it.
As it stands right now, simply doing "Gap Closer -> odd hit or two -> Stun -> melee LB" is enough to kill most targets. Healer usually can't save you from this scenario either.
As stated, it's really more important to know when to go in and when to GTFO.
Everyone except tanks should always wear fending accessories. I'm always wearing 2-3 of them as drg and I'm still able to deal alot of dmg and I don't really feel that much dmg loss.
Yea I think Fending is a good choice
The biggest DPS increases in Seize/Slaughter are Battle High/Fever, your best burst is Raw Destruction. Staying alive is how you access these 3 thing. Almost more importantly is Recuperate, which heals you for a % of your max HP. So the more VIT you have, the more potent your Recuperate. I feel like that alone is a big game changer in 1vs1 encounters.
When choosing right side gear, I consider DET/CRIT secondaries though, might be worth holding on to that Prototype Slaying Ring if you don't have a DET/CRIT VIT alternative.
I'm not anywhere close to having a skillspeed twink build yet, but I am looking forward to seeing how it does. I tried a SkSpeed DRG build in Slaughter and I could feel the GCD difference. Didn't keep with it though, but will try again for 60lvl. The problem tho is Skspd will be synced down to 150, not sure how high skspd can go at that ilvl but i look forward to finding out

I've been doing this and have been having tons more success. Plus I always get targeted first just for having the Monk name above my head so I can be a distraction and pull off limit breaks when needed. Survival is super important in the new mode since you lose your team points when you die.I use fending on my monk since it goes well with fists of earth and some other defensive buffs.
