A little thing FF14 could have...

Hello everyone!

Some time ago, I've been caught in a conversation with the major differences between many good MMOs and something caught my attention and I thought about sharing my observation.

In my opinion, what FF14 needs the most aside from your usual expansion and evolution is something that could deepen the lore, its world and its characters even further than the short stories we occasionally have. What I would like to see are more books and comics happening in the universe of this game to give it more life and depth by introducing new things such as locations, hidden lore or stuff too far from Eorzea to ever really matter to us. Weekly comics that would follow the adventures of characters from all over the realm could be a fantastic addition to this game and it would give me something read or keep me occupied while I take a break or wait for the next patch. Othard, Doma, Thavnair, Garlemald, Ala Mihgo... All these places could have a lot more impact and importance for us players if we could see side stories happening in them for example. Or we could follow the in-between chapter adventures of either Tataru, Alphinaud or other characters and learn even more about them from their own personal adventures.

Comics can be a memorable way to improve the lore and the depth of your game and so far, we've got none! Give me mah weekly comics SE or I'll make them myself! >:C

No thanks, keep it all in game. Don't want to have to go to novels to get the lore and characters they should instead put in the game.

SE publishes a monthly manga magazine (like a comic book anthology) called Shonen GanGan in Japan. And I'm pretty sure they've had plenty of final fantasies and other SE titles in manga form in there. So FFXIV manga may actually happen...

(Side note: Full Metal Alchemist is serialized in Shonen GanGan, which is why SE produced its game adaptations.)

Fair enough. I too wouldn't want the main lore to be only accessible outside the game. But you seem to miss my point though.

I'm not asking to share lore between 2 mediums but to add lore through an additional and appealing medium. The game is very limited as to what they can add in term of lore and side stories since all you can really do in game is talk to NPCs and do quests. The more intricate details and deeper lore won't come out of the mouth of some random NPC. If a NPC had an adventure, I don't see him or her start explaining in details what they did during 2 months while waiting for the next patch. The same applies to events and important things happening in distant lands. You won't get those in game out of the blue.

I do hope so! But for now, FF14 has been running for 2 years already and they have plans for another 7 at least and still we haven't gotten any kind of new medium to publish addition details and lore to the world. I find it saddening... There is so much potential there!

But knowing SE, we'd never get it even if it did happen. Anyone remember all that XI merchandise SE did that never got released outside Japan? If I remember right, I believe they had a few short books on stuff in XI, but never released outside Japan.

Taking that idea. We have reporters in world, so to fit what if it was done as a regular newspaper that you could access in game?
