Then the question would be: how were they able to stay functional and keep their sanity for over 5000 years (or 3000... the Allag's "disappeared" around 1000-5000 years ago)? How would they wind up in the three starting cities?

As neat as a robot thing would be (so long as it looks nothing like the 6 current playable races), there's too many questions...

Op, don't listen to those who tell you to stop posting this, it's better then hearing all the whining about parsers and negative posts about the game in general.

It's posts like these that encourages people to make topics that they know full well (or maybe not) doesn't make sense from lore prospective point of view.

We find them sleeping in the raid and we awaken them when we beat the big boss. Self-Perseverance will keep them and anyone from killing themselves however they still have ways. What about Aether?

That doesn't make sense, though. New players, this including new races, all start at the very beginning of ARR, which is before Binding Coil or anything Allagan related. It doesn't make sense for us to wake something up that then goes back in time to five years after the Calamity.

The Au Ra came in the late parts of ARR. So no it does not make sense. They were mostly some place else before that, and honestly if they are such an advanced forms who is to say one did not escape its slumber early and masquerade among-st people?

As for staying active; well, we know that Allagan stuff tends to be...built to last.

Yet other similarly old constructs like Dalamud and Syrcus Tower have/had no such problems. Whatever tubes Doga and Unei came out of had no problems either.
Azys Lla's malfunctioning systems could very well be due to factors other than the stuff being too old.

If you can recall, a lot of systems were found deactivated when the WoL's crew arrived at Helix. It's not implausible that, among those deactivated, were probably some crucial maintenance functions.
