recently im seeing more and more PLD using protect before everybody is out of video at the beginning of a duty
i want to cry every time...

Let them. If you're lucky, everyone else will load in during the casting delay and save some time.

Worst case scenario, it has to be cast again, but no one has lost any time or resources. I especially prefer that WHMs do it this way with Stoneskin II rather than blowing the Swiftcast that would be more useful in their DPS opener or AoE rotation.

I hear ya, and I feel the same way on occasion, but in all likelihood the PLD is casting because they have nothing else to do and want to pretend to be useful. If they want to hit buttons, more power to them.

The only time I get truly irritated is when PLDs stop attacking to cast Clemency or Stoneskin for no obvious reason.

recently had a PLD in roulette low that casted cures and stoneskins whenever he dropped below 90%
i still dont know how i endured the run without going crazy (oh wait...)

Been noticing this lately, also - moreso in low level dungeons (roulettes, etc). It does come off as condescending or insulting in an odd way... I'd barely loaded in and the paladin was halfway through protect. As though it were a quiet "Ugh this healer sucks already, they're not even casting Protect on the party omg ugh" (....yeah because either I or the rest haven't even loaded in yet -_- *Golf swings them in the shins with cane*). Like people breathing down your neck before you can even get to anything.
Kind of "no big deal", but annoying. /shrug
It just really feels a bit like the DPS that pull before the tank or the ACN that's playing healer for no reason.

I don't think they mean any insult by it though. For the first 3 dungeons, most healers will only have 1 cross-class skill (unless the healer is cnj, at which point they don't have stoneskin, and I personally think cleric stance and swiftcast are the more important cross-classes). I think it's just them being nice. Avatars are not very good at expressing emotions, so it's actually hard to know they're being condescending unless they /smirk... every time they do it... that might be a funny macro.

Also, since SE set protect and SS to be the same regardless of class, there's no reason why plds can't cast it. They don't have too many abilities from CNJ and MRD that are actually useful for them. Also, tanks casting SS between pulls or tank buster attacks saves the healer mp and time, especially if they're healing the rest of the party up. Just remember it's another mitigation tool for the PLD, so they're not trying to steal your gimmick (as its actually their gimmick too).

im alway happy when im a low instance on SCH and the PLD gets us protect, but... why does he cast it while there are still ppl in video/port???
its not about PLD casting protect, its about PLD casting protect before it can hit everybody in the pty. if it hits everyone, fine, less to do for me, but this is rarely the case so i have to recast it once all are ready anyway
