Scholar DPS relies on Cleric Stance (a cross-class Conjurer skill; make sure to pick it up, since it's only level 6 or so), which, when activated, swaps your Mind and Intelligence stats temporarily, as well as boosting the power of your damage-dealing skills. Your heals are terrible while Cleric Stance is active; conversely, your damage-dealing skills are terrible while Cleric Stance isn't active. Cleric Stance has an 8 second cooldown when used, meaning that you're stuck in it for 8 seconds at a minimum after turning it on.

What this means is that you have to gain a bit of experience with the dungeon that you're running through before you can really use Cleric Stance safely. When you're running through a dungeon, pay attention to how much damage the tank is taking on average for each pack. If you find yourself simply standing around not doing much (except maybe tossing out the occasional Adloquium), it's probably safe to use Cleric Stance and pump out a little DPS.

An easy way to get some initial damage in before having to worry about healing the tank is:

• Cast Adloquium on the tank before he engages a pack/a boss, then activate Cleric Stance as he gets ready to pull.
• Cast your major DoT spells. Scholar has four: Bio II, Bio I, Miasma, and Aero (which you can cross-class from Conjurer). For a single target, cast your spells in this order: Bio II, Miasma, Bio I, Aero. For multiple targets, cast Bio II, Miasma, Bio I, and then use Bane to spread the DoT spells from your initial target to other nearby targets. Keep in mind that it takes about 1.5 seconds for Bio I to actually register as being on a target after you cast it, so wait until you actually see the Bio I debuff on your target before using Bane.
• Toggle out of Cleric Stance and use Adloquium or Physick again as necessary.

The nice thing about DoT spells is that they "snapshot" while you're in Cleric Stance, meaning that, even after you toggle out of it, they'll still continue to deal damage as though you had the enhanced Intelligence from being in Cleric Stance. This is a reasonably safe method of DPSing as you get used to it, since it will help to train you to know both when it's safe to DPS, as well as helping to build in a certain amount of muscle memory for when Cleric Stance is on/off. I don't even look at my buff bar for the most part nowadays: I simply know when Cleric Stance is or isn't on depending on when I last hit the hotkey for it and whether I started the fight in Cleric Stance or not.

There's a bit more nuance to it, but I think this is general-purpose enough to get you to 50 if that's what you're mostly angling for. It'll help to train you for Summoner, as well, since a core component of Summoner DPS (the three main DoTs) is essentially the same as what Scholars put out.
