There's a lala (no surprises there) on Cerberus who spammed a custom emote, (he'd have loved the /slap emote lol haven't seen him around in awhile), which I found pretty funny, got him back!

But some people just really hate them, and see it as a personal attack :/ So I'm really careful about emoting with random people, only if they emote first. If OP is serious, there's more to this story, I find it hard to believe that multiple people got really offended just from the slap emote.

I'm sorta reminded how in XI to some folks /poke was like the worst thing you could possibly do to them. Like, legit would send people into fits of rage. I think it was the JP player side mostly if I recall right; lots would take it as some grave insult. Just one of the worst things you could do and could so quickly turn you into some pariah, lol.

I don't recall /poke being an issue but checking (examining) people did "offend" some, mostly JP, players. Frankly, I didn't see it start to offend NA players until after it became semi-common knowledge that it offended some JP players.

If I recall correctly, the JP version would say "Name stares at you intently." and the NA version said "Name examines you." I think the whole taking offense to being checked/examined thing started in other, earlier MMOs with RPers and then caught on with non-RPers because... people are stupid.

Omg, I remember this sooo much. I would be no better tho, I would keep examining them til they teleported or left the area. Only time I really examine people is cuz they had a piece of gear that looked nice and wanted to know what it was.
