    I'm sad :(

I've played this game since early access of ARR. It's my first MMO and I discovered I loved the crafting and gathering very early on (my first 50 was FSH, as was my first 60).

Got all crafts and gathers to 60 tonight, bought a load of the not perfect, but quite nice gear on the MB, and realised that I just no longer care. I probably should have realised that when I bought the gear and didn't try to craft it myself.

Crafting and gathering has been the game for me. Lots of fun while chatting with friends I've made, swapping mats around, making things for friends to help them do their leves, sending a set of level 50 crafting gear to a friend when I notice they are at level 49, etc. I don't even have a battle class to 60 yet, mainly because I don't like dungeons and haven't run the library. As an aside, I main BRD, so the changes there were a whammy as well ... lol.

But .... I'm just not feeling it now. Gathered some Birch Logs tonight to get the last bit of XP I needed on CRP, and the constant mounting a flying mount, wait a second for the other two nodes to show, fly there, work out if I need to fly up or down (I haven't gathered a lot so it's not second nature yet), is just tedious.

So, as the title says, I'm sad, because I think I've run out of game. I'm gonna miss the friends I've made, but unless something drastic changes my sub will expire in about 6 weeks and I will have to move on.

It was a fantastic game for two years, and now it just feels broken (to me ... if it's fine for you, then that's also fantastic).

(edited to get past the character limit)

Since when is gathering not been tedious. And yes after you do it awhile it does become second nature and you don't even notice it. Maybe your just burnt out but its far from broken...

All the things you mentioned you can still do.

It may just be time for a break and explore some other games or activities. As far as craft / gathering systems go, FF14 is not the apex, and never was.

Just out of curiosity, what do you consider the best crafting experience? Obviously this is a subjective question so, no one can say "This game was the best and this game wasn't" because it'll differ from person to person. Perhaps, for the OP this crafting system was the best.

I got all my classes to 50 by the end of ARR. I don't want to spend my free time grinding fates for my other classes other then my main. I dabble here and there in gathering but I know how you feel being "burned out."

In terms of complexity and depth, FF14 is only a slight bit ahead of Warcraft because you have to actively make the craft 'high quality' to be worth it. Other than that it's standard get stuff, make stuff; Fairly standard across RPG games like Guild Wars, Diablo, Aion, Warhammer and so forth.

If we limit it to online games, I'd go for classic SWG. You still get stuff to make stuff, and you still make components to make into bigger items, but the key difference is that battle equipment had several categories you invested your 'experiment' points in. For FF14 comparisons, it's basically allowing you to select the secondary stats your item will come out with.

The gathering system was also a balance of automation and effort; You had to actively go out and survey materials (The quality changed week to week, as well as the location) but once you did, you plopped down auto harvesters and checked in once a day or so. This in turn enabled the above crafting of literally tinkering away in a laboratory both for mass production (Automated factories using a schematic you design) to personalized 'master crafts' (Using rare materials to amp the crap out of a blaster rifle for your favorite Stormtrooper).

You could also literally name and provide a description of your item. Was it a 'better' system is hard to answer, but it was leaps and bounds beyond FF14 in terms of accessibility, flexibility, and tingly goody feelings while being several generations behind

It's also worth noting this system of mass production was allowed because items perma-broke; Mass produced items used for daily activites and your rarer 'mastercrafted' items for e-peen dueling.
