How much are you prepared to pay for Red Scrips (Crafting)

One thing i have noticed is the price to make these is absurd if you buy all the ingredients.

On my server 16 scrips will set you back about 100k per synth.
The trouble i find is that right now I do not have all other crafts leveled to 60 to make the other components and am forced to buy some.

I feel that if i do not i will inherantly be put at a sever disadvantage due to the weekly lockout.

Is the problem the excessive materials or the fact that the scrips are so pathetically low you need to make 30-50 of them to cap each week?

And as per the topic what would you consider a reasonable price to pay? and any recipes which are overwhelmingly cheaper to make than others?

I find Goldsmith / Alchemist / Miner is almost completely self sufficient. You don't even need Alch to 60, you just need to be able to make the grade 1 dissolutions reliably. Use Retainers to hunt up the ingredients you can't gather.

This also gives you access to two red-script crafts per cycle that are usually 25+ (35-40+ with the changes this week). The only hiccup you will run into are the crafts with leather.

At the most I pay 10-15k per red script if I need leather and don't feel like waiting; Otherwise, on the weekends I'll do one or two favor gather runs and that gives me more than enough goldsmithing materials.

I'm not at all prepared. I'm gonna level all crafts to 60 just for the achievement whore in me, then be mostly done with it, except maybe crafting gear for myself and friends to level with. Endgame crafting no longer appeals to me.

    Generally speaking .. I don't pay.

I craft using stuff I get myself, or via my retainers.

I'm very tempted to take my Fishing retainer though, and retrain him as a combat specialist. There is *one* crafting material fish from HW that Retainers can bring back, and the various recipes use a TON of combat retainer gotten stuff.

I agree I pay next to nothing, I send out my retainers for Aurum Regis Sand / Hard Silver Sand / Cloud Mica, then I gather Hard Silver Ore and various Raw "Stones" from Favors then I make Noble Gold / Noble Codex. I might have to buy some Dragon Blood, or Aqueous Whetstone if I'm low on GC seals. I only had to make 14 of them this morning and I'm already capped for the week... took all of 15 minutes.

same here I pay next to nothing, I just use some of my time to gather what I miss, and hop with it. I will train two additional retainers for combat, the rest being min & bot thankfully I can get most of stuff out of them.

There's maybe 5-6 of us on my Server who are willing to pay for these items. Me being one of them, I won't buy them off the Marketboard.

I advertise in Party Finder when I need them. I honestly value them at around 60~80k, not the 300k that they sell for on my server.

@ 300k a favor item, if you average 3 items a favor, or 135 Items a week, you're looking at 40.5M worth of favor items a week. To put this in perspective, the Gather tool many people are buying right now on Adamantoise server would be equivalent to 390 Favor items, or 117,000,000 gil.

So I think its a little overpriced on my server, and thus why I advertise in PF. Only like a dozen (if that) known crafters on my server could afford to even attempt gearing themselves up using MB mats and I'm pretty sure half of them have given up crafting for now.

Edit: Oh I just realized you guys are talking about the turn ins to acquire the red scrips, cost me like 300k a week max between Alc, Culinary and Crp

Even if you can gather everything, there is still the opportunity cost of the money that you could have made selling the item (or mats) instead of turning it in for scrips.

Opportunity cost is something of a red herring.

Sure, you could have made money selling the item rather than making it as a collectible, but then you would not have gotten the Red Scrips, right?

I'm not going to try to cost the Red Scrips out based on the opportunity cost of the materials or finished product, HQ (or NQ where applicable) because that opportunity cost is not a factor. It is not a factor because if I'm making it for the collectible for Red Scrips, I've already decided to forego that opportunity cost.

It might be an interesting exercise to see how much each Red scrip is costing me (today, each RCS cost me the time and trouble to get from my retainer 10 Birch Logs, 1 birch branch, 1 gold ore, 5 aurum regis sands, 1 archaeornis leather, 6 raw star sapphires, and 2 basilisk eggs, and to buy 1 growth formula theta only because I lacked the red quartz and so did the marketboard, then to craft the materials and Birch Rod) but if I'm making 9 of the things there's no way I'm going to be able to move all 9 HQ Birch Rods at the 175k the cheapest HQ one is on the marketboard currently for. And as I spent only a few Ventures, and some time, gathering all the mats (except for the growth formula) each Birch Rod cost me 3k to make.

To my way of thinking, that means that each RCT cost me 3k .. not that each RCT cost me 175k or less.
