While I agree with most of this, I think it is important to bring up that many people have alts. Alts that weren't in existence when said event was out, but have the achievement/items on a main char. So I (and many others) were paying a sub at the time to participate, and yet would have to buy said items to have them on an alt. There are a number of ways SE could make it so that any char on an account with the achievement could get said items without paying money, and my Au Ra would welcome any of them.
Edit: Including, but not limited to: Making achievements account-wide, checking the achievements of all chars on an account when determining whats on any chars salvagers, or simply removing the untradeable flag to allow people to put these items in their FC banks and whatnot.

All interesting solutions to the problem. As someone with seven characters on one server alone that would be something I appreciate. They could also stem to make purchases from the Mogstation to be account wide, rather than individual, if we're going that route.
That said, I rarely get a full holiday set on all of my characters. I tend to focus upon the ones in which the seasonal items would best suit, and not sweat the rest.

I don't agree. I have all 8 slots on my account filled and each character has every seasonal even items. The only one that I didn't get was the FFXIII items sorely because of the level requirement. While I agree with most of this, I think it is important to bring up that many people have alts. Stop trying to justify people's alts for them to not sell these items.
Not everyone makes alts all at once? Heck on Balmung, there have been people trying to make alts for 6+ months, but character creation restrictions make it all but impossible.
Alts are a perfectly valid reason to be upset by the change in the holiday event rewards.
extremely disappointed, ive been waiting for the summer even JUST so i could get a yukata. guess thats what i get for assuming things. this is BS, if the game was f2p it would be fine, but its not......

Well you're a year late.
And there is still a chance that the 1.0 yukatas will be in the event itself seeing as they aren't in the mogstation.
If this game was f2p those yukata's would be $10 or $15, not $3. Not even other P2P or B2P cash shops are this cheap.

If I wasn't paying for a sub when an event was originally released, I think it's perfectly fair to pay a small amount to be able to get the things from that event.
Otherwise it's like going to a RL event that gives out free t-shirts to the people who pay to attend the event and saying that you should get a shirt from the last event for free even though you didn't actually go to it. Giving you the chance to purchase one if you want it is a reasonable compromise.

Thank you for this sentiment. If I wasn't paying for a sub when an event was originally released, I think it's perfectly fair to pay a small amount to be able to get the things from that event.

There comes a time where it feels like customer cross the line between people who work to provide a service, and a second-class citizen servant. And honestly, this error happens on both sides of the service provider, both their customers, and their bosses.
I realize it's hard sometimes to imagine things from outside a customer viewpoint but it really does wonders for the experience all around to be mindful that there are human beings involved in all points in this.
